  • 1 year in and still loving it, even with it's minor flaws
Item Shape: Curved
I purchased the "earlier" version of this carport a little over a year ago (April 2024) shortly before they stopped selling it for a while (this one has the same pictures and dimensions, so I'm assuming it's basically the same product that's now back in stock). I like it, it's holding up really well, and I've gotten lots of compliments on it. But.. It's not perfect. Maybe they have fixed some of the issues, maybe not, but overall it's a good unit if you go in knowing it's attributes. Pros - it's heavy and sturdy. I was afraid it would be a bit tippy as the cantilever section is a bit close to the middle, but once the roof was on and a few tie-bolts installed into the driveway it's totally solid. We had a major storm with 80+ mph winds come through and knocked all kinds of debris out of the 100 ft Douglas Fir it's under and it handled it fine. Another pro is that it's more a mid-level DIY project that assumes you have some familiarity with building large items and the appropriate equipment - but for that type of project it's pretty well designed and thought out. I was able to assemble the posts and beams in the garage by myself but needed 2 friends (and a 3rd would have been better) to assemble everything. The biggest pro for me was the semi-cantilever design because in my situation I couldn't have corner posts on one end, and this design was the only one that fit my requirements. Cons..... there are a few. The big one for me was that when assembled the roofing sheets are narrower than the roof framing. Not a big deal as it's only a couple of inches and it's still quite sturdy, but a bit of a miss. Hopefully they've addressed it since. Next up is that there is no measurement provided of where the legs go, so it's kind of a guessing game when starting the build.. and trying to hold the legs vertical while moving things around is a bit of a trick. Thinking of the posts, the holes for securing the base to the ground are so close to the legs that with the legs installed you can't get a drill in position to properly drill them... and since you don't know where to put the bases until after its assembled that's a bit of a challenge. Finally, most of the wood has held up well but one of the back legs has some splits developing and a bit of something growing on it (to be fair I'm in a rainy part of the pacific northwest so it's a wet and shady environment most of the time) - if all of them had it I'd probably not notice, but since it's only one leg I'm wondering if it got treated the same as the others. Overall I'm really happy with it, and if I needed another one I'd happily buy this one again.. but I'd throw a bigger BBQ with more friends and find a forklift to borrow to help with the assembly. ... show more
