Directions a little backwards, the remote needs to be synced first to make it talk to the receiver. Easy to do takes a couple seconds. I had professional installer come and install this fireplace insert. It was small enough to fit in our 1910 house. Unforutnately, there is no support, no manual or no trouble shooting guidelines included in this packaging. This fireplace burned dirty and frames were too big to be safe. The installer could not get any assistance and Amazon started that it would take 48 hours to get any support from the manufactor. The product was returned. While I agree with the other comments that the instructions could be a lot better, if you hire a “gas plumber” to assist you with the installation (as I did, worth every penny of his service because he knew how to connect the unit even without good instructions) the process of getting these fire logs to work will be much easier than if you try on your own. After installation, thus far I am amazed how well the remote temperature control works: gone are the days of having to manually turn the gas logs on when it was too cold or turning them off when it got to hot. Just pair the remote with the fire logs “command box” and then set your desired temperature. ... show more

    • No assembly instructions!
There are no log placement instructions or pictures with this. Its like a puzzle and the only picture you have is the one on the Amazon listing. The flame is very tall so make sure your hearth box can handle the flames higher than normal. The instructions do tell you how to put the batteries in and how to connect the remote receiver but not how to place the logs to achieve a reasonable flame and glow. ... show more

I like the remote. However you still gotta get in there turn on gas, light pilot. Then you can sit down turn on fire. Terrible fumes. Not the easy of use I hoped for. Also no instuctions included.

    • Perfect after much fuss
The media could not be loaded. You need to be very familiar with the safe setup of ventless gas appliances since there are NO installation instructions. Pro tip. After much angst I discovered you can adjust the flame height down manually by rotating the On/pilot/off knob to an intermediate position. You need to know this since most gas log installations are in fireplace inserts not rated for ventless operation and a very low setting is required for safety. ... show more
