A tough Slide bolt gate latch is heavyweight and reversable! This thing is beefy. I need a latch for the barn to be too much trouble to bust into with room for a heavy lock. I think I have found it. Using on a heavy wood door with the screws provided should be very secure. The hasp should accommodate a thick cable, pad lock or shackle lock. The rod moves smoothly without any snags and looks well made. I don't see any messy welds. I don't know how these are made but this one does look tough as heck. I appreciate the clean finish of the black coating. This is really professional quality. The reversable part of this whole latch is what really got my attention at first because I wasn't exactly sure how it would place to screw in. The other part that is noticeable is the how the latch covers the screws where you'll lock it. That is a good theft deterrent. It would be a lot of work to remove this thing. I think this is a great value for the quality and weight!

These are well made, I wasn't expecting such a fine finish to the barrel lock but it's welded and painted well. It's easy to install on wood posts or metal gates if you predrill . It can hold a few hundred lbs easily. The hardware was a good value for the current price. It works flawlessly and will last forever .

The Good: -Heavy metal construction -Large size for bigger gate/shed door designs -Comes with hardware -Recessed holes -Lock option The OK: -Hardware (might not be the ideal type for your project but nice they include something) -Covers some screws in locked position (might not be enough to prevent prying but it’s more of a deterrent) The Bad: -Metal coating is flaking in some areas brand new (this indicates it won’t hold up long-term but you could repaint it) When it comes to gate/shed latches this is a much heavier design than most of what you’d encounter at a hardware store. It’s overkill for many gates but might not be enough for huge designs. Comes with install hardware for many applications but you may decide something with larger threads or a longer screw design would be better. Hardware holes are recessed which gives a better look and more secure position of the latch. There is a padlock hole which can be nice for shed usage. Bar latches don’t give as much flexibility if you have moving posts so keep that in mind if you’re working with older lumber. Black coating on the metal is already flaking so plan on repainting it or removing the paint. Overall, it’s an excellent strength bar latch that’s designed to be sturdy and will be an upgrade over many of the options I’ve seen.

This is a LARGE and THICK latch. It feels very solid and high quality. I'm planning on building a heavy door for a larger shed, and I wanted a heavy-duty, lockable latch. I searched in my local big box home stores prior to ordering this one and was disappointed to find cheaply made junk, nothing that compares to heft, size, and quality of this one. The price is a bit high at $32, but you are definitely getting what you pay for on this latch. I have no doubt it will last a lifetime. Recommended!
