There are times when you're camping that you'd like to have a campfire but either obtaining wood is an issue or campfires aren't allowed (but propane fire pits are). For those occasions, it's nice to have a portable fire pit with you. This one is pretty nice - it has a quality propane hose, regulator and fitting, the control is nice and the ignition works well. The legs are permanently attached but fold up underneath for storage using a nice spring and pin system. Although this is steel, it has a very thick and even coating of heat resistant paint. They include 4 more items with the fire pit - some lava rocks that will evenly cover the bottom of the fire pit (but just barely), a lid that firmly attaches both for storage and to give you a handle to carry it with, a base for your propane tank and a mesh screen for safety on your initial burn. The lava rocks are pre-treated but may still "pop" the first time you use them, so the mesh screen helps prevent fragments from flying on the first burn. You can dispose of it after. It's really the perfect size for a small campfire and the flames are quite nice. This won't put out anywhere near as much heat as a true campfire but it does help to take a little bit of the chill out of the air. It mostly adds atmosphere to your gathering. Probably the only downside to this fire pit is the weight. Because of its size, the fact it's made of steel and combined with the weight of the lava rocks this weighs a whopping 20 lbs when you're carrying it. I have a bad back and it's kind of a struggle, I don't want to have to move it more than I absolutely have to. Other than the weight, I have zero complaints or suggestions for improvement.     • Very easy to set up and use
This is a well built unit, sturdy, good materials and very portable. It is easy to set up and take down. Just make sure you get rid of the extinguished ashes properly and you're good to go. It is nice for a spontaneous little evening gathering roasting some marsh mellows and feeling warm and cozy.

Wow! I recently got the opportunity to review this 17.3-inch Portable Propane Fire Pit. First off, the setup process was a breeze. The only minor challenge was opening the little package of screws, but once that was sorted, everything else fell into place effortlessly. The setup was straightforward and hassle-free. The fire pit's lid serves a dual purpose as it acts as a stable base for the propane tank and can also be placed directly on the pit itself for storage. Practical and convenient! The four legs fold under for portable transport. The cords are just the right length—not too short to be restrictive, yet not overly long to create a tangled mess. It's a small detail, but it matters. The lava rocks are included. While there weren't many, they did the job. They provided the initial spark to get the pit going. In this case it's about quality over quantity. And the heat output is impressive! The pit generates consistent warmth for chilly evenings outdoors. The heat is adjustable. As avid campers, we are always seeking ways to enhance our outdoor experiences. This fire pit certainly fits the bill. Lastly, the pricing surprised me in a good way.     • Good alternative to wood burning fire pits
Most backyard gatherings are more fun and enjoyable when you’ve got a fire pit. I suppose there really is something primal about a group of family and friends sitting around a fire and simply enjoying each others company. But wood burning fire pits can be a nuisance. First you’ve got to have a ready supply of wood. Then you need someone who actually knows how to get a good fire started safely. Your drunk cousin splashing gasoline onto some logs doesn’t qualify as safe. Then, once the wood fire is going it needs plenty of attention to keep it going and then the inevitable waiting for the fire to die so you can go back inside. No thanks! That’s just too much work. Now, this little gem comes along and it really is a fire pit game changer. It runs off a standard BBQ propane tank. It’s small and easy to carry. Setup is a breeze. There’s a nice long hose to keep the tank a safe distance from the flame. Connect the gas, turn it on and light the flame. Couldn’t be simpler and it works well too. Best of all, there’s no messy ash to clean up when your done and after a short cool down period, everything packs up neatly. It’s an excellent addition to your backyard party. Cheers! ... show more

I was so happy to open the box up and see the preassembled fire pit. It was just a matter of unfolding the legs, adding the rocks, and connecting the propane. Easy peezy. It's a nice sized flame for a few people to gather around. I think it will work well especially during morning time while camping. Those times when you just want a hassle-free fire that won't take a lot of time investment. The gas regulator, that attaches to the propane tank, seems a little lightweight compared with other propane appliances that I've hooked up. I haven't noticed anything harmful about it. Just an observation. I like that the hose gives the fire pit some space from the tank. It makes it easier to avoid tripping and fumbling over. ... show more
