I tried these out with my Trex brand deck, and they are a great alternative to the Trex fasteners. For comparison, I pulled one of my Trex fasteners out to put side-by-side with these fasteners and they are very close in equality. These screws are slightly shorter but they worked fine for me. They come with a pack of two screw attachments making it easy to get started immediately.

I have been building a deck and I have so far gone through about 3 boxes of the Trex Universal Hidden Deck Fasteners and have screwed on 540 pieces. I needed more so what I saw these, I thought they would be a cheap alternative. After all, how can you get a simple screw and piece of plastic wrong? Apparently you can. First they are almost an exact match to the Trex Fasteners in size and shape. The dimensions are almost an exact duplicate. However when holding them side by side you can immediately notice that the weight is off. I've drilled in over 500 of the Tex fasteners so I know that these are noticeably lighter. It wasn't just the screw but the plastic themselves feel like lower density and lighter and flimsier. Working on my deck project showed me this was ultimately true. Again, after drilling in over 500 of the Trex fasteners, I can tell you that I have literally broken 0 of them. I have had 3 Trex fasteners that had the screws break but the plastic never bent or broke. I installed about 36 of these and had 6 of these fasteners crack or deform and two screws that just snapped in two. This is a huge defect rate. The plastic is very cheap. They use very cheap plastic and they can't be fully sunk in because they deform under pressure. I use the same setting on my drill as the Trex and I had to lower the torque down by half as to not break these fasteners every time. Obviously lowering the torque means these fasteners don't get sunk in fully and it shows. The deck pieces I installed with these all move a bit when I walk over them whereas the Trex ones are very firm. With composite pieces they are not always perfectly straight and they bend and warp, you need strong fasteners to force them down. These do not. They will break before they clamp down on the decking. Trex are expensive and these are much cheaper but the quality is not worth it.

First off, these hidden fasteners are a great price and that's why I got them. I'm installing close to 600 sq ft of Trex Enhance decking. These fasteners fit the Trex perfectly and hold the decking in place and provide constant spacing. They are black which makes them very discrete and the screws won't rust. The thing I don't like is the plastic does not see as strong as the name brand. I had some screws drive almost all the way through the bottom of the clip (see 1st and 2nd photos). Also another screw blew out the side of the clip (see 3rd photo). I appreciate that they included two drive bits and the large plastic tub is sturdy enough to used for storing other things--I plan to keep it.

I don't know how these compare with TREX brand or other competing fasteners. With my Trex Select decking, these fasteners hold the boards about .01" above the joists, permitting them to slide (and expand/contract) somewhat freely, but also concentrating vertical load on the fasteners. Not sure if this is intended or not...seems wrong. The "precise dimensions" are a little off from those stated in the listing photo. The claimed .23" gap width actually varies between .25" and .26". The overall height is about .52", not .55". The screws are not magnetic, confirming rust-free stainless steel. I like the fastener idea for a few reasons. You can remove and reset the boards easily if it's ever necessary. Your installation is faster and with fewer errors (missed joists, overly sunk surface screws, etc. However, you might prefer narrower gaps than the .26" enforced by these fasteners.

I'm very happy with these Blactea Hidden Deck Fasteners for Composite Decking -- they are exactly like the brand-name fasteners I used a few years ago for our composite decks, same size and spacing, and I definitely like the Torx heads on these screws better than the square heads that were supplied with the fasteners back then. Long-reach T-15 bits provided. The fasteners themselves are every bit as strong or even stronger than the ones I was used to before... I can't break or even bend these with handheld pliers, and whereas I would occasionally overdrive the screw on the brand-name fasteners (even with the clutch on my driver) and pull it most of the way through, these fasteners seem harder and I have to REALLY try to drive the screw too deep into the plastic. And for less than half of what I was paying at the big box store, these are an outstanding value. Good product, great value!
