What I would have given for a kit like this when I grew up! Lego Technic didn't exist 'back in the day' but I sure had fun with all of the Lego I collected back then. My son and I had lots of fun with Lego as he was growing up and I made sure to grab all of his bricks and put them away for later as he (thought he) "outgrew" them. My grandsons will (eventually) be the recipients of quite a Lego haul once they're old enough! This STEM based kit, and a few others, will be held back for a few years until they start to show interest in the more sophisticated Technic kits. While their dad is a pharmacist, they come from a long and broad line of Engineers who love playing with technology. So I'm sure they'll enjoy this kit eventually too. WARNING: MOST Construction Instructions are In The APP ONLY! The paper instructions are for just one model, rather than all 14 included in the kit. Given that I'm looking 5+ years down the road before my first grandson will be even close to ready to start playing with this, my attention turns to the App and how to "give it a long life" so that the instructions will be available to my grandchildren for the next 15-20 years. I haven't played with the app yet, but I'm hoping there will be a way to "download" the instructions in a format that will live-on for decades. Paper is always good for that, and maybe even PDF files. Time will tell. This kit comes with only one paper based construction instruction set, and leaves the other 13 to the App, unfortunately. Another benefit to this kit is a second manual that talks about the mechanical engineering principles that are demonstrated and "baked into" these robots. The list price of the kit seems kind of high, but given that the price of Lego has always been "on the high side" of the toy budget, it's not surprising for this "technic" equivalent kit to be on the high end too. The long term value is there, so remember to consider the educational value as well as the fun value when considering the purchase!

I love that this kit comes with a little booklet that gives science principles that each of the different builds available will teach. There are written instructions included for making the little drummer robot. For the other builds, you need to scan the included QR code. But it’s fun to have all the different options. Pay attention to the directions when you’re putting this together. A lot of the steps are mirrored from one side to the other, creating a robot that’s basically symmetrical with only slight differences between the left and right side. It’s easy to make slight mistakes that make a big difference if you’re not paying attention. Speaking of paying attention… The first step is to insert the batteries in the motor block. Don’t skip this step! It’s pretty difficult to go back and try to add the batteries later. You have to take apart the robot in order to access the battery compartment. Also, there were a few places where I wasn’t paying close enough attention, and I put the next bit of the build on the wrong side. When I finished and turned it on, the robot didn’t work because I had one of the gears on the wrong side.

I selected this STEM kit to give to my son so that he could start to learn how to put different models together and to learn how to give these models action. What I appreciated most was that the small motor that came with the kit integrates with each model. I further appreciated the limited amount of parts and the ability to change up the construction design based on what instructions are followed. The part colors were nicely colored bright orange and lime green which are two of my favorite colors and I see that they completed each other well. Instructions are provided for only one model, but there are directions provided to download an application for the remaining model guides. Based on the first model I work through with my son, the parts went together well and I did not notice any difficulties with the build. I am very happy I selected this kit and see that my son is getting some learning time from the activities.

This STEM building kit is pretty neat. I got this because my little boy loves doing projects. Unfortunately at the moment, this is a little over his head, but he will grow into it. He is definitely fascinated by the finished project. The first thing we built was the walking robot and he that that was pretty cool. The kit has a QR code that you can scan with your phone to download an app that walks you through the build process step-by-step for each of the models that this kit can make. The app also has quite a few mini lessons that teach kids about shapes, fulcrum, gears, transmissions, pulleys, cams, worm gears, gravity and several other things. It's pretty cool to have these basic lessons as part of the kit to help kids learn and understand how things like this kit work. The instructions are very easy to follow and I haven't had any issues with this kit. I am really looking forward to making all the other projects involved with this kit. If you've got young kids interested in STEM or robotics, get this kit!

This technic building block set that has a motor component is great for my six-year-old son, who loves everything robots! he currently goes to robot and coding class and they have something that’s very similar to these. However, these building pieces fit much better and are a lot more modernized than some of the older technic sets used at the school. It also comes with what we call the brain of the robot which can be hooked up and Powered up to create a moving creation. My son has used this to create no robots, but also structures that have moving parts. He absolutely loves that This has a brain that he can use it to build whatever is on his mind. This is a great little starter set. It comes with lots of pieces and a tree to put it in. The package is very nice and can be given as a nice gift. Highly recommend.

This set is basically the result of combining Legos with an Erector Set. This set gives young minds the opportunity to discover the power of pinion and rack engineering, gears and pulleys, gravity, levers and so much more. It comes with a battery powered control module that powers the creations. There is also an App that you download to access more build instructions for the kit. It comes well packaged with a plastic insert tray that you use to sort pieces. Would be great for a homeschool learning tool, or to just feed the hungry minds of kids. My grandson is 6 and he loves taking apart/putting things together to see how they work. The price is expensive for such a small kit. The entire package is about 8”x10”x2”.

My son liked this building set very much! He loves to play with Legos blocks, and these pieces are compatible with Legos, so I had no trouble with the other parts of the other brands when I had to assembled. The box only includes an instructions manual for 1 robot, but in the App, you can download it and be able to see more models to assemble. My son spent a good time assembling the sets. The app is pretty easy to be used, it has the option to sign up, but you can log in as a guest, without having to make an account and you can continue seeing the options that has to build. Recommended.
