I'm giving this Wi-Fi adapter 5 stars after using it for two weeks. Will update in the future if anything changes. I bought a refurbished PC that came with a cheap combo wi-fi/bluetooth usb adapter. The download speeds were maxing out at 50 mbps, and I have 400 mbps service. I looked up the adapter, it cost $3 and operated on 802.11n with a max speed of 72 mbps. I knew I had to upgrade. After searching amazon.com, I settled on this EDUP adapter, specifically the EP1689. I do not have an optical disk drive, so I downloaded the driver/software beforehand. Install was a breeze, and the new adapter connected instantly via USB 3.0. The RealTek Utility is full of helpful information. I now get 250 mbps down, a full 5x speed bump from before. Couldn't be happier for around $13. There have been zero connectivity issues so far. As you can see in the screenshot, the signal strength and link quality are both 100% consistently. My pc is about 10-12 feet from the router, but with a concrete block wall in between them. The EP1689 is never slow, and does not drop out or disconnect. I highly recommend this product.

The unit requires installation of drivers on your OS (Win10, Mac and Linux). I have both Win10 and Linux, the win10 installation was painless: Click on the installer in the included mini-CD or download the installer from the manufacturer's website. Linux was a bit more involved, could not figure out how to use the files in the CD, but I Googled "How to install Linux drivers for RT8812bu" and was able to install them on Ubuntu and MXLinux with no trouble. The speed you get is a function of both the max speed of your raw connection, and of the max speed of the wifi router you have, and will never be the as high as the speed at the router, but I say this just to set the right expectations. In practice the speed I got was quite acceptable, and higher than my AV2000 Powerline adapters. Not bad at all for the price. YMMV, but as long as you have a USB 3.0 or higher port on your computer this adapter will deliver. If you have an older computer with USB 2.0 ports the speed will be less, but still better than whatever the original (if any) adapter ... as long as your incoming service and router can handle it.

My laptop recently gave up on connecting to wifi! As I am enrolled full time in college, i decided to use one of these until thanksgiving break(when i can get my laptop into a shop with school work breathing down my neck)! It worked perfectly, required little set up, other than plugging it in to my laptop and pressing accept! However, I would suggest taking it out of you laptop prior to transporting you laptop anywhere! After only a few times in my school bag this little guy just gave out! I will be looking for a more compact one in the future! But if you aren’t the type to travel with your laptop OR are good at remembering the small things then this is a great fix for a laptop that just won’t connect to wifi! )

I have a faulty network adapter in my BRAND NEW gaming laptop, and didn't want to deal with the hassle of changing it out right now, so I got this little thing. It works great! I went to EDUP's website to download the proper driver, since I don't have an optical drive to install off the included mini CD. Downloaded in less than a minute, I went ahead and did the install, plugged this little beauty in, and had functional, non-dropping internet immediately. If anything, I am loading webpages faster than I was with the interior network adapter! I just went into my device manager and disabled the internal one and told my computer to NOT turn this one off to save power -- which I do recommend doing, since it is a USB and computers tend to cut power to USB devices to save power sometimes. You don't want to lose connection! This adapter is very small and fits perfectly on the side of my laptop, in one of the USB ports I don't use on one side. It's unobtrusive and barely sticks out from the laptop, so no worries about it causing an issue on the go. I definitely recommend.

Bought to access my fast network over old laptop wifi. At first it was terrible speed (10mbs) and unstable connection. Took a lot of google-doodling and reading to get it right. I don't know if a non-techie would have the knowledge and patience to see it through. Had to adjust many settings in tcp/ip, card properties and settings and get new drivers from the manufacturer. In the end, it rocks. Fast as ISP rated speed downloads and no more disconnects. So, I give it a 4. Works great now, difficult install. =========== Follow-up. Device is unstable. Constantly disconnects, bumps down to lower speed, and is generally unstable. Before you blame it on my laptop, I bought a different brand and it works fine after a painless installation. I'd avoid this USB Wifi adapter. ≈========== 1 month update. Totally failed. Won't connect at all. Another brand connects instantly without any fooling around.

Used this for an HP600 G2 running Windows 7 Ultimate for the family room without direct access to an Ethernet port. I have a total of 16 cat 6 ports throughout the house but in this case not one above the fireplace mantel. Had issues with the unit dropping signal until I realized the generic USB drivers were out of date. Once updated the dongle performs like a charm. The software included has issue obtaining a necessary dynamic link and kept giving me error upon reboot so I deviated from using the included software as it was not necessary. All in all a good purchase for the money and it does the job well as noted on the attached speedtest.

My USB Network adapter failed so I purchased the EDUP 1300M as a replacement and am very happy I did. As an IT Professional I see so many network adapters that are not very good. The 1300M performs very well, no drop-outs or lag at all. The connection is always strong even at great distances from the router. It was very easy to setup, came with a cd and the choice to download drivers if an optical drive is not available. Due to the performance and a reasonable price point the 1300M is a great value! It supports Windows Vista and 7 through 10, Linux 2.6x and Mac os x. Some Specs: Dual band 2.4/5.8 G, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n/a/ac, Dual Antenna, USB 3.0 and more.

This is an Okay adapter. It will serve a user well if just simple and average results I ended up use a different adapter for fast results. Good for older PCs or Laptops. I gave it 3 stars because it was okay but no Wow factor. Still, it is easy to install, small size, works as described on advertisement description.
