Features

  • Precision Planing: Handle stock up to 6-3/16" thick and 13" wide, from thin panels to thick slabs. The extended 29-inch worktable with adjustable infeed and outfeed tables eliminates snipe on long boards, so you get clean, usable wood from end to end without wasting material on cutoffs
  • Powerful 2000W Motor with Safety Protection: Power through thick stock without stalling or burning out. The 2000W motor maintains 10,000 RPM even under heavy loads, while intelligent overload and overheat protection automatically stops the machine before damage occurs, saving you from costly repairs and downtime Driven by a 2000W high-performance motor at 10,000 RPM, this planer handles demanding workloads with ease. The overload and overheat protection automatically shuts down the machine during excessive current draw, protecting both the user and the motor
  • 3-Blade HSS Cutter Head: Triple HSS Blade Cutter Head: Skip the tedious hand sanding and get glass-smooth surfaces straight off the planer. Three razor-sharp HSS blades at 10,000 RPM slice cleanly through any wood species without tear-out or chatter marks, giving you finish-ready boards that look professionally milled
  • Adjustable Cutting Thickness: Fast Feed Rate with Easy Height Adjustment: Process more wood in less time with the aggressive 21 ft/min feed rate that doesn't sacrifice surface quality. Dial in your exact thickness from 1/4" to 6-3/16" using the intuitive adjustment handle, and take up to 1/8" per pass when you need to remove stock fast

  • Nice upgrade from my old yellow tool
I bought this to replace my old "yellow version" and I am very happy with the upgrade. It planes boards smoothly and evenly, and the finish looks clean right off the machine. Probably won't need to do too much sanding to get ready for finishing. I was too excited to swap it out with the yellow tool in its permanent location, so I just ran a scrap 2x4 through to try it out and it worked perfectly. After I took the picture, I hooked it up to my shop vac and that worked even better, taking care of about 95% of the wood shavings that were coming out of the planer bed. This planner is lighter than my old one, which makes it easier to move around, and the controls are pretty straightforward so I was able to get started right away after attaching the dust port and depth gauge. The machine feels solid, runs smoothly without too much vibration, and the noise level is about what you’d expect for a planer this size. I actually think it is a little quieter than my yellow one, which is a definite plus for me and my neighbors. ... show more

  • There are better options
I really wanted to like this planer. I already have an older 12 1/2 Ryobi that I have used for years. I didn't really need this one because it's practically the same thing. Same size, same straight blades, same apparent build quality. I guess I was just hoping it would be better in other ways. It's not. Don't get me wrong. It's fine. It worked right out of the box just as it should. No weird calibrations or other adjustments needed. The cut quality if decent. I get similar snipe on this planer like I do on my Ryobi. I need to sand to remove blade marks just like with my Ryobi. But this currently costs abot $100 more than a Ryobi. Why? If I were starting from scratch and hd a limited budget I would probably still go with the Ryobi, or maybe even a Wen. Heck, Harbor Freight has a couple that look pretty good and are both cheaper than this one from Woodstarter. If this goes on sale for less than $400, or maybe $350 then that's probably a fair price. I just can't recommend it at $500. ... show more

  • Solid benchtop planer with great features, but shipping and setup matter
The media could not be loaded. The planer arrived with a broken handle, which was disappointing, but I think that was due to the packaging more than the machine itself. The styrofoam used was the brittle, crumbling type and only about 1–2 inches thick. Since the planer is heavy, the box had clearly taken a sideways hit during shipping, and the foam didn’t do much to protect it. Better packing materials would go a long way toward preventing this kind of issue. Once I got past the packaging, I was impressed with the overall feature set, especially at this price point. The planer has a good aperture for handling a range of wood sizes, and at 13 inches wide, it’s a convenient size for a small garage woodshop like mine. I’ve used large commercial planers in the past, but this one fits my space and can be packed away when not in use, thanks to the folding infeed and outfeed flaps. That said, I did notice those flaps weren’t perfectly level out of the box. They were angled upward by about 1–2 degrees, which caused some snipe on the exit end of the boards. It’s adjustable, but the leveling system uses bolts and lock nuts, which is more like something you’d see on a go-kart than on precision woodworking equipment. After about 20 minutes of tinkering, I got the tables closer to flat, but I’ll need to re-check and fine-tune over time. Even then, I still saw light snipe on hardwood, though it was shallow enough to sand out. On the performance side, the 2000W motor seems strong for a machine of this size. I ran both a 5x24x¾" oak board and a standard 2x4 through it. With a light cut, the motor had no trouble. Deeper cuts on hardwood will naturally bog it down a bit, but that’s expected on a benchtop model. Overall, the power is more than sufficient for hobbyist use and small projects. Dust collection was better than I anticipated. I connected my Dewalt shop vac with a 1.78" hose directly to the dust port, and it captured around 80% of the chips and dust. That’s not perfect. Still, for a unit in this price range, I consider that a win. It also supports a 4" hose, which is a nice option if you have a larger dust collection system. One small gripe: the dust collector screws on, so the rear flap can’t be closed with it in place. A snap-on or quick-release system would be more convenient. The setup was otherwise straightforward. Installing the lifting handle took one screw, and attaching the dust collector took four. The thickness gauge is easy to read in both metric and SAE, and adjustments are intuitive. The planer also includes overload and overheat protection, which is reassuring if you’re pushing it hard. In use, the machine feels stable thanks to the cast iron base, and the three HSS blades produce a smooth finish. I did see some snipe, but some runs were very clean and smooth. The return roller on top is a handy addition for handling longer boards, and the folding extensions provide just enough extra support to keep material steady. Overall, this planer has already proven to be a good fit for my garage shop. It’s not perfect—shipping damage, snipe, and a few design quirks keep it from competing with higher-end models—but for the price, it’s a very capable machine. If you’re a hobbyist or DIY woodworker with limited space, it offers a strong combination of power, size, and usability. With some patience in setup and adjustment, it should deliver years of solid service. ... show more

  • Built for Real Work
I ordered this planer because I’ve been wanting something dependable for woodworking projects, and it has really impressed me. The three HSS blades leave boards with a smooth finish, and the adjustable thickness settings make it easy to dial in exactly what I need. I’ve run everything from rough pine to hardwoods through it, and it handles both without hesitation. The feed speed keeps things moving along quickly, but it doesn’t sacrifice precision, which makes a big difference when you’re working with larger batches of lumber. The build feels sturdy and professional, and the dust collection port options are a huge help for keeping the workspace manageable. I also like that it has overload protection built in—it gives me peace of mind knowing the machine won’t get pushed past its limit. Setup was straightforward, and once I had it secured on a bench, it stayed stable throughout use. It’s a bit loud, as expected, but no louder than other planers I’ve used in the past. Overall, this is a solid choice for hobbyists and serious woodworkers alike, and it’s already saving me time while improving the quality of my finished pieces. ... show more
