These files are really great value, but they are an additive process glass file, this means that the glass is not textured, but glass powder is added after to create the texture. This means they rapidly become smooth, like old style emery boards, but cause a lot less damage to your nails. I love them, but would love them more if they lasted a little longer before the grain becomes really fine. It does mean they can become more fine grained or buffing as they become smoother so can have more than one "life" ... show more

It’s super cute but it dulls really quickly, pretty much one time use. However they are making the glass gritty, it’s not the same as the non-dulling glass files like what Sephora has. I’ve had my Sephora one for years now and it still works perfectly fine. I wanted a few more to put in my purse and to give as teachers gifts. Great value for your money. However, the file surface wears down quickly. I only opened 1 file (green). I barely filed my nails and realized the surface wore down quickly. I only tried it on 3 nails! Simply running my fingertips over the surface proved it's not really textured. Based on the photos it seemed it would buff/burnish my nails and make them shiny. It did not. Also, it's too thick. While this is great bc it gives some leverage, it's difficult to get into the corners/tight spaces. Will stick to my metal nail files (thinner). I bought a metal nail file (diamond grit) which works better at both filing my nails into shape and even when I buff the nail top it doesn't look scratchy.
