This unit is perfect for a medium size space. It's super quiet, and effective. As far as it being DIY, if you're handy with things like this, have a general knowledge of how this unit works, how to mess with copper tubing as to not kink it or strip the threads, and how to do electrical it is very much so DIY. If you don't have the confidence that you can install it you're probably best to have it done. The instructions do not show how to get the cover off the inside unit but a quick Google search and it's easy to do. Also they don't show how to switch from C° to F° but if you scan the QR code in the manual it will tell you how. They also don't show the step to open the valves on the outside unit to release the freon into the system after vacuuming so don't forget to do this step. Other than those couple of things it was super easy for me to install myself with no help and we are very satisfied with this product and highly recommend it. ... show more

Absolutely a great product at a really good price. It is not too heavy & comes well packaged. I have been using both heating & cooling for about a month and it is working perfectly. It gets really cold! It is also very quite, inside and out. At 1st I thought the outdoor unit compressor wasn't running, but it was. Do yourself a favor & get the wall bracket kit for the outdoor unit, sold separately, it is worth it. You will need an HVAC expert to install as the evaporator & line set need evacuated & leak checked prior to opening the service valves which releases the refrigerant charge into them. Installation was easy. I didn't have a vacuum pump so I got the one at harbor freight and it worked fine other than I had to get 3/8 to 5/16 adaptors on Amazon and worked fine. Unit works well, it is pulling water out of the air very well. Very quiet inside and out. For the money it beats everything else I've seen. This is for the 18,000btu unit. Unit is pre charged, just vacuum out the line and it's ready to go. Make sure it hold vacuum before you open the valves. ... show more

[Update: The unit is shutting off randomly in use about 4-6 times a day, and recovering after the default 180s delay. I have logged all the data I can from it and cant correlate the fault to any of it. I think it is a thermal issue of the inverter, not related to the inverter temperature sensor, but something else which is monitored but not reported. It seems vaguely sun position and air temp related. This issue came after about 2.5 weeks of use from what I see in the logs.] This is a pretty decent unit, the oem is AUX i think. It is the cheapest inverter unit i found in this size class, and it definitely does perform as one. I have it connected to an inverter so I can graph it's power usage and it nicely scales to load. It also does soft start which is pretty important for inverter use and seems to cap out around the 1800w area. Unfortunately it doesnt seem to do soft stop, it makes a fairly audible clunk when shutting off under load, which probably inst good for longevity. But my usecase is to just let it run all day, so it shouldnt really shut down for me under heavy load. i got filtered by the app pretty hard, it requires Cellular service on the phone to set it up, which I dont have at location, so i gave up and pulled out the wifi module and replaced it with a esp32 running esphome. It was pretty trivial to do just using the existing aux ac component on github. Kinda frustrating not having any online documents. Since my outside unit arrived a day early, I was able to install it, but I had to sort of guess at the length of lines coming out of the inside unit as it hadn't arrived yet. And the instructions are in the inside unit. Unfortunately the 4 wire control cable was also in the inside unit box, so you cant fully finish the outside work without both boxes. The inside unit lines stick out about 1 foot from roughly the lower right corner relative to front of unit, so plan for that accordingly as the lineset is a bit shorter on these at 13ft. ... show more

Not hard to DIY installation your self. It comes pre charged which is awesome. But you do need know like basic electrical and will need vacuum pump to vacuum the line before opening the value. You will need to do a soap water test to check for leaks also. Over all high recommend. Works great coils and heats. The temperature is in C instead of F so you may have to google what temperature to set it on. ... show more

Whoever installs this thing is walking a high wire with no safety net- a pro will not read the instructions, and that will save them. Who designs a unit where the line connections are made in the middle of the wall? Template wall hole size is too small to pre- connect the lines- insulation strips off- fittings get caught- drain hose runs the risk of getting a hole in it and ruining your house.The reviews about poor performance are due to the lines being half kinked when straightening from the shipping configuration to go through the wall (per instructions). Template has the holes miss-marked, unit is designed for 10 foot high ceilings, not 8. This company owes me double my money back just for fixing some of their flaws in this review. Will I buy another one? Of course. This is sinfully affordable, and the rest of it looks sound. I suspect that many purchasers are keeping quiet...they want the next guy to feel the struggle, too ... show more
