This review is for the 11459 variant, the 2.4L L4 size for Regal, Equinox, and Terrain. This alternator sucks. Like majorly sucks, among the lowest performers I've reviewed from Amazon (and I've reviewed a lot, check my history). For context, I test quite a few alternators and other automotive components. I have a shop to do it. So I know what I'm doing in this space. Right off the bat, the build quality is meh. The casing is poorly cast. The bolts are low grade. It's just meh. Then, when I put this things on my bench and started to run it under load... my god, the squeal. It is LOUD. Crap bearings. But beyond that, the bigger issues is its electrical generator capability. Or lack thereof. First off, it only got to 103A. It is rated for 120A. That's a very big deficit. Secondly, the output ripple on this thing is insane. The rectifier used for this must be the most bargain basement rectifier on the market. It is horribly noisy (electrically, but also audibly as I said before). The one positive thing I will give it: it didn't get hot. So they got the thermal management right, at least. Of course when you're only pumping out 103A instead of 120A rated... not getting hot isn't quite as impressive, though it's still a small win. Most Chinese alternators bake themselves (which is the primary reason they don't last very long on average). Look, it's possible I got a defective one. I don't think so because nothing looks out of place internally, but maybe the components themselves (e.g. rectifier diodes, etc.) are bad. I don't have the time to be that thorough in testing, and that goes beyond the scope of this review anyway (basically an electronics review at that point, not automotive). But I'm admitting the possibility. So do with that what you will. It seems a lot of other people have good experiences, so maybe mine is a fluke. Who knows. At $100 (at time of review), I obviously expect better. I definitely expect to get 120A out of an alternator rated for 120A. Normally this would be a 1-star rating, but it's 2-star because I do want to acknowledge the good thermal profile on this thing. Even if it did put out 120A actual, I know I would still be fine with how it handles heat. They did that part right, so my 2-star reflects that.

This replaced the alternator in my 2011 Equinox and I'm very happy with the fit and ease of installation to put it in. Everything aligns just fine and the quality is evident in the manufacture of this alternator from the excellent build of the housing to the smoothness of the pulley wheel. It seems like a very durable replacement and I expect it to last for a while. And excellent value that puts out consistent high voltage and simply works great. I recommend.

Fits perfectly on my 2017 Equinox and performs with no issues. Installation was quick and straightforward everything lined up just like the factory alternator. It actually charges stronger and runs quieter than the original AC Delco alternator I replaced. The build quality feels solid and reliable, and after a few days of driving it’s been holding up pretty good. Great value for the price and definitely a good replacement option. You’ll spend longer getting the belt back on than you will installing the alternator.
