These beetle traps are made of a plastic similar in feel to a deli container. The top appears to be sealed to the clear part. When slipped between frames they push the frames apart just slightly; no more so than the metal traps I also use. These plastic traps sit flatter in the tops of the frames though (reducing the chance of beetles hiding under the trap rather than IN it) and have the benefit of being able to easily see if they are full or not. Plus, unlike the metal traps, there is no cleaning the oily, beetle-filled mess. Just toss and replace with a new one. The only thing I would suggest is to divulge what kinds of plastic are used in the construction. There are no marks on the traps to indicate this. ... show more

This 100-piece Small Hive Traps set is an excellent value for any beekeeper. I've used similar hive beetle traps in my apiary, and these are just as effective. Hive traps are an essential tool for maintaining healthy hives, and these are simple to fill with oil and place between frames. First between frames securely between frames. They have a nice reservoir for oil to trap small hive beetles. Cheaper price so you can just discard them when they’ve done their job. When I’m through this batch, I’ll order more!

These work very well, and the package size is extremely practical. They well made, possibly slightly deeper than brands I've got in the past. I started out on this style then switched to reusable. Big mistake! Reusable were great until fighting to get the propolis out of the grates to reuse them. Returned to this disposable style and I couldn't be happier. Filled them with food grade mineral oil. I trapped a lot of beetles before the bees propolized the grates. Due to the size of this pack, it's quick and easy to replace them as needed. ... show more

    • Plastic appears lightweight and fragile
While the plastic does seem fragile and lightweight, I don't see any issues while this won't function as expected. I like how it can fit between the beehive boards. This little contraption look very promising. It's nice to have something to catch beetles and prevent them from impacting the hive. I recently talked with gentleman who has commercial beehives and lost a lot of them due to beetles, so something like this could make a huge impact to prevent issues like this. ... show more
