I usually don't like anchoring things in drywall, but sometimes I have to. Like hanging plaques and weather stations for example. The usual plastic expandable inserts work for small loads in places where they never move or get bumped. These screw-in anchors are much more robust and dependable. You use a standard Philips driver to screw them into the drywall and they make their own starter hole and then auger in. They have a much higher working load and are not subject to vibrate out. I used some of the plastic ones and they worked great. The 240 piece kit will last me a while and the assorted sized will work for the rated loads. The only complaint I have is how they were shipped. This arrived in a bubble wrap envelope. Because the contents have some weight, and the container is thin plastic, it was broken in shipping. If an outer box was used this may not have happened. Same if the product had better packaging. I will have to transfer them to another divided container.

These are good for hanging heavier items, such as handmade wood wall art. They are self drilling which avoids the issue of predrilling a hole. They are made of a good quality plastic that expands when the screw is tightened into it. I found them easy to use and so far, reliable.

If you are not familiar with this type of drywall anchor, you should be. I have been using them for years, and they work well. They make a bigger hole than a standard anchor, but they don’t typically pull out of the wall, and you can be fairly precise in positioning them. You also have the option of leaving the screw sticking out partially, for picture hanging or other things that might need it. These are higher quality than usual, quality in my opinion. On the better anchors, the bodies separate when you drive a screw into them, as these do, making them more secure, but these are fine. They are rated for 80 pounds which is a good general size for just about anything, and if you hit a stud, just throw away the anchor and drive the screw right into the stud – at 1.38” they should be long enough. The price is OK – comparable to home center pricing.
