  • Wonderful bit for clean cuts
I have been using this bit to dig channels out of dense rubber with my hand router. After trying a half dozen different bits of different designs, I found this ZahyoX to be exactly what I needed to make the channels quickly, cleanly, and easily. It cuts fast with little heat and leaves the surface perfect- no jagged edges on the surface and no tear-out. and a really clean and flat bottom. Compression bits are really good for this, but you do need to have a vacuum system to clean out the debris as you cut because it doesn't pull up the debris like an upcut bit does. I use much more expensive Amana bits in my CNC machine, and this bit seems to perform as well as any of those at half the price. Excellent results from an excellent bit. ... show more

  • Very short up spiral at end, great for thinner material
This is really what I’d call a mortising compression bit in that the up spiral at the tip is shorter than a standard compression bit. This is advantageous for CNC machines With low power spindles because the first pass doesn’t have to be as deep in the material to get to the down spiral portion of the bit. This bit cut extremely cleanly and chatter free and hardwood plywood and MDF. Was cutting beautifully right up till I hit a screw with it, lol. I ordered another one immediately. ... show more

  • Try it
Some people aren't familiar with what a compression spiral router bit is, or is used for. It essentially minimizes tear out at both sides of the wood that you're routing. Two points for a clean cut with compression bits. First, don't plunge to depth where you want to cut. In other words, start either at a nearby scrap portion of the wood, get to depth, then move to the cut you want to make. This is because when entering the wood, you'll get tear out because the bottom of the bit which is intended to pull the wood when cutting TOWARDS the router is intended for the FAR side of the wood, not the near side. (Not using proper terminology so that it's more easily understood.) The second point is the compression bit won't be effective with any wood thickness. You need to insure the wood you're cutting is thick enough so that the up cut and down cut portion of the bit are at the edges. In an extreme example, if you cut 1/4" plywood with this, you're not going to like it. Hopefully that makes sense. Final note, it's a thin router bit, so use care not to break it by moving to fast or hard, take your time. It's a great bit and came in a nice, hard plastic case to protect it. ... show more

  • Nice compression spiral bit
This is a nice compression spiral router bit. I got it to use in my handheld routers (I don't have a CNC) so I can only comment from that standpoint. It's super sharp and appears to be well machined. When I used it to route some pine, I got zero chipout thanks to the down compression on the upper part of the bit, and also got zero burning/scorching. I tend not to buy super high-end router bits like Amana bits. I don't run them in a production line, so it's hard to justify the high costs. So, I can't compare this to the top-of-the-line bits in terms of quality. But, I appreciate a good tool and also try not to buy bottom-of-the-barrel, use-it-once-and-then-it's-toast kind of tools too. I'm pleased to add this to my collection of router bits and think that this represents more than a significant step up from many discount router bits. The price is about a third of what you'd pay for an Amana bit, but I would be hard-pressed to believe that an Amana bit is three times as good. That said, I find it odd and entertaining that this bit arrived in a case with a seal on it saying that the warranty is void if the seal is broken (see photo). How am I supposed to use this bit without breaking the seal to remove it from its case? I guess the warranty is automatically void if you use this bit... ... show more

  • Clean cuts with no chatter
I got this compression bit to use in my hand held trim router as well as on my CNC router and found that in both applications, it performed very well. In the CNC router, there was no chatter when cutting up to 1/2" thick MDF and the cuts were clean with no blowouts. In the hand held router, the performance was nearly identical, though you have to be careful when using it with a jig/bushing as the bit can grab if moved in the wrong direction ... show more

  • Nice. Clean, highly polished grind will last
In my experience, the most important factor contributing to long edge life in carbide is a polished edge. Not just "made shiny", but polished in the sense that a fine grit wheel is used to finish the edge after the contour is ground with a lower grit. If the edge is left at all rough, each little serration in the edge becomes a place a crack will form (look up "stress riser") and that leads to early chip out and rapid edge degradation after that. These have a really nice grind and highly polished edges both on the end and the sides. I know this is going to cut nicely and I expect it will also last. I don't use these enough to wear one out, you'll have to check other reviewers for someone who uses these in production and runs through one in a day or a week to see how many linear feet they get from it. But I've seen and used a lot of end-mills (which is essentially what this is, even though it's used in a router) and this is a fine specimen. I would definitely do it again and recommend. ... show more

  • No tearout at all when plunge milling veneered plywood
I tried this bit out on some 1/8" mahogany veneered plywood that has been notorious for chipping when routing at any angle across the surface grain. This bit produced no chipping at all even when run well below optimum RPM (on a CNC milling machine for metal). I took light first cuts with a slow plunge rate to compensate for the low spindle RPM, but that doesn't matter to me as long as the cut comes out as clean as it did. I could probably make more use this in a 1/8" diameter if available. The grind of the flutes and cutting edges is complex and interesting, and it seems to work well. The bit has a finely ground finish and looks expensive, which helps justify the price. I can only guess how long this would last in production use, but If I don't break it it should last me a good long time. ... show more
