I've used the spring type of hardware previous when using unistrut for supporting solar panels, seems very finicky, the springs pop through the holes or try to rotate and they don't slide in the unistrut. With these retainers it solves a lot of these issues, you can literally stick them all in the unistrut in rough locations and then when bringing each panel slide them to exactly where they need to be. They also work well with the 1/2 size lower profile unistrut. The only issue I've had it where the tab that helps you rotate them can hit the panel and it's sometimes hard to get it to fold away, I've actually cut them off in some scenarios on one side and it's still quite easy to rotate the retainer with a single tab.

They work perfectly in what I consider standard Unistrut. I've never used units with the plastic holder, and I now see how handy it is. You slip the assembly into the channel as you expect, then you twist the plastic bit into place (with very handy grip tabs on the top near the bolt head), and this twists the metal slug into place securely. This ensures that the metal slug in the channel is aligned perfectly before you begin to tighten the bolt. Without the plastic carrier, you are depending on the bolt rotation to spin the lug into place. while this usually, works, sometimes it gets hung up, and you need to get in there with a screw driver to wiggle it around. I REALLY like these. And they are as high-quality as any I've used. In my photo I show the style without the plastic clip next to the box. I still use these, but I now vastly prefer the units with the plastic clips.

I think I like these better than the standard spring nuts. With the spring nuts it's sometimes a game to get them where you want and then if you have to move them at all it's kind of a pain. With these I marked my strut, spun the nuts in and went for it. Great product.

No expert on these, I got some of these to attach some extra solar panels to some channel I got from a roof mount kit from ecoworthy. These have a great thick ‘base’ piece to lock inside your channel giving a great hold. Exactly what I needed.

I obtained these for occasional strut channel projects. The steel hardware consists of a 1/2-13 x 1.25" hex head bolt and standard drop-in 1/2-13 strut channel nut, both of which appear to me to be zinc plated. Instead of having a spring attached to the nut, it has a soft plastic frame that surrounds the nut that allows it to be much more easily inserted and held in place. The plastic frame also allows much easier repositioning of the nut across the length of the strut channel. Overall, it looks like very nice hardware that is simpler to use than regular spring-based nuts.
