This thing has been super helpful for keeping a space to do micro/myco work clean and isolated. As easy to set up as a tent, material seem to be sturdy for the most part, and being super lightweight is helpful when you don’t have one designated area to work in. To test this out I poured 20 agar plates. I inoculated 4 , left one out as a control, and the rest went into storage. Everything was kept as sanitary as possible, given the necessity of transferring from an environment with the air turbidity into one with still air. The place were kept in their packaging, media jar was transferred directly from pressure cooker into the SAB, my specimen plate was kept wrapped, and all instruments had been flame sterilized just as they were put in. All of this was placed on top of a towel that it is soaked in a 10/1 water and bleach dilute, which was rung out to just being damp, and my bottle of 70% isopropyl was put in as well. After the boxes loaded, I closed it, scrubed down, put on fresh clothes out of the dryer, put on a respirator gloves, and a hat that covered all my hair. After that everything got sprayed down inside the box with alcohol and I got to work. Out of the 20 plates, I had five ended up contaminated. 25% contamination rate for a first round with a new piece of equipment I would say is not that bad. After figuring out the contamination situation, I realize that one modification would be needed for me to make in order for this to function even better as a mycological still airbox. I took the damn cuffs off of the arm holes. Sometimes it’s fine to have those depending on what kind of work you’re doing, but they act as a suction force so when you remove your arms, it ends up, pulling contaminated air from further up your arms down the length and into your work space the box. After assembly, I noticed that there was hazy spots on the clear plastic windows. I could not wipe away very hard to view what’s inside the airbox./// update.. the seller is sending me a replacement stat. I like that that’s why I’m changing from a 2 star to a 4. I like the set up but I needed this in a timely manner the 1st time. ... show more

I bought this for my mycology work. I like using it much more than DIY boxes and found it easier to put together. The slanted front makes it easy to see what I'm working on and the tubing structure is perfect for adding a light and camera mount inside (see photo). They should sell a kit with clamps and a light. It comes with a couple of carrying bags for the tubing and plastic. You should get this if you want an inexpensive SAB box that beats a tub with holes cut in it. ... show more

I use the still air box for mycology, and it has performed exactly as I hoped. I like the slanted front for easier viewing. Be carefel when assembling it. The tubes need to be put together loosely and then slowly and evenly squeezed down until it won't go any further. Otherwise you might get a weird shape that doesn't let the cover go on. Make sure the frame is pressed together enough to allow the cover to slip on with ease. It shouldn't be tight. I tore mine the first time I put it together because I was trying to pull it over the frame when the frame wasn't as small as it would get. I taped the tear and it has still worked perfectly. ... show more

skeptical at first from reviews, but this thing is very easy to put together, youll have trouble if your in a rush. you could rip the plastic but just be careful and everythign will work great. this is much better than making my own. i would reccomend only downfall i see is the bulkyness of this thing, using only once a month or so. breaking down and putting back up will have a toll on longevity. we shall see ... show more
