  • Planking Boards
Style: 14" to 36"
First time ever using an "Alaskan Chainsaw Mill." Setup wasn't terrible. Had to watch some videos online but was pretty easy. Of note: make sure you have a rail system for the first board, to remove the outer rough cut board. This kit did not come with those mounting brackets, but this same brand offers them. Ordered, and it worked great. One thing I found out quickly and was new to me (even though everyone I talked too who has used this style of mill, said "Yes, that is an issue" is that you lose a lot of the cutting width. I was running a 20" bar on a Stihl 311 and by the time you add the saw to the mill, the brackets and how it mounts takes up about 4 inches of your cutting length leaving you with a max cut of 16". I ended up having to purchase a 25 inch bar and new ripping chains. With the 25" bar, I was able to slab boards under 20" in width. Ideally, a 36 inch bar would be better but my Stihl 311 would be very unhappy with that much chain. Overall, really love this product. Well built, sturdy, and works. Only complaint would be with all of the track extension set screws. These will vibrate out of their hole quite easily and I am going to use some lightweight locktite to help the screws stay in place. Recommend this product. ... show more

  • Well made
Style: 14" to 36"
I received this Alaskan mill to plank some big trees in my front pasture that need to come down. I have not used it yet but I have assembled it. It goes together easy and is a simple design. The instructions are not very clear but it is not hard to figure out. I will be using it later this week and will have a better idea on the working of the mill. ... show more

  • Did the job and more to come! Did the job and more to come!
Style: 14" to 36"
This mill is well built with just a couple of quirks that I can easily get over. So far, I’ve milled a few oak logs and a couple maple combined with a Husqvarna Rancher 460 with a 24” bar and Forester ripping chain. If you take your time, everything runs great and I’d guess it goes about 1’ / 1-1.5 minutes. Use your wedges in the back of the log once you are clear enough and then side wedges every few feet. Also, pay attention to your markings on the depth gauge. I installed mine in opposite directions, so I have to look around one side or the other to match them up. Overall, I like the kit and know I can run a bigger saw, if I get one! Definitely recommend this Alaskan mill. Pros: Stable / wide platform that keeps cuts level and tracking well. Lightweight frame, but solid backing for the saw. Easy to adjust cut height with your standard chainsaw wrench. Brackets for the first cut work well, if your log’s end cut is fairly square. Cons: Plastic handled bolts for holding handle and end brace vibrate out. I’d recommend some blue loctite on these and nuts that won’t be adjusted. Handle is awkward to use. I wish it was upright, like most other mill kits. I might add a clamp on handle for that purpose. One the second cut and beyond, you have to make sure you start level, or the back of the guide will bind when it gets on the log. ... show more

  • Surprisingly Well Built
Style: 14" to 36"
I have used this kind of "sawmill" before and that one was very difficult to setup and use. The workmanship on this sawmill is very nice and the materials are perfect for the build. I am surprised at this level of quality for this price, my expectations were much lower. Now, as to how well it works, it works as expected, but realize, any device like this carrying a chainsaw beneath it is unwieldy. It takes a lot of time and a ton of effort, much more than a "real" sawmill, but it works if you stick with it. We cut up a 20" diameter x 10' long Elm log. It took all day and pretty much wiped me out, but we got there and the result was very good. ... show more

  • Zozen is simple and easy to use. The tool pack is super helpful. Zozen is simple and easy to use. The tool pack is super helpful.
Style: 14" to 36"
I have a pretty massive tree that went down and i bought this to slab up my old growth wipe pine. i used an extension ladder for the first cut and a Stihl 066 with a 32" blade. I also bought the extension kit so i can put my 46" bar and chain on when i get lower on the tree. The Zozen went together quickly and wasn't missing any parts. I prepped the tree for the first cut 9' long by about 26" wide cut which went smooth. Then I set the depth to 2 1/2", and made another pass, filled up with gas about half way through, and should have filled up with bar oil, i was out then done with the second cut. Saw was a beast, and the mill did its job perfectly. i inspected it after and no bolts loosened up. I did make sure they were tight before starting. I will be using the extension this weekend towards the bottom of the tree. I would reccomend 2 people to run it, at least for larger trees. ... show more

  • Works as advertised
Style: 14" to 36"
No issues with mill that others have noticed! Note, I have a Husqvarna 70CC 372XP w 24” bar, cutting 14-18” green Black Locust was the limit for this mill. In other words, YES, you can mill logs this size, but it’s a lot of stress on your saw, even when resting and sharpening after EVERY SLAB. I DID NOT, use a rip chain which I realize would have made things easier. Bottom line, if this is for 1 small “rough” job per year great, if not look into a small band saw mill! ... show more

  • So far so go... Just out of the box... and then some...
Style: 14" to 36"
4-stars so far. I just got the unit last night, and set it up. Be careful, the small little nuts for holding the extensions together, several of them were floating around the box, and one was actually imbedded into the card board. I did collect them, and found out that the Vendor includes more in the tool kit. Out of the box, it is built solid (shortest for now), and I'm about to go out an play! I did WD-40 the various nuts, bolts, etc. as I put the thing together... There was a little existing rust on some of the screw threads... Now is time to go and test it! Follow-up - I've gotten a chance to use the rig, and I wish I had gotten this sooner! I've only work on 3-4' Black Walnut logs, and with the chainsaw and rig, it is one solid cutting devise! Upping the Stars to 5! Again, keep an eye out for loose screws!! ... show more
