This is a crazy good dynamic mic for $50. It has good noise rejection and great sound quality with lots of detail. It tends to have a bit of a darker sound, but I'd prefer a darker, rounder sound with less pronounced highs that I can EQ later than something that sounds harsher out of the box. From the side-by-side tests I've heard, this mic is on par (or better, depending on your preferences) with the Rode PodMic and Shure MV7x, the other popular XLR mics aimed at podcasters. It does have a few flaws, but for the price it's absolutely worth putting up with them. This mic desperately needs a shock mount, since noise transfers through the body very easily, especially through a boom arm mounted to a table. Zoom does not make an official one for some reason, but a decent quality one that fits can be easily found on amazon for about $10. The included windscreen also doesn't do an amazing job at plosive rejection, but the fix for this is to point the mic at a 45 degree angle toward your mouth instead of straight on. My last complaint is super minor - the thing is kind of ugly. It's just a regular black mic with a big bulky windscreen. It doesn't look cool, but if you're wanting high quality sound for the cheapest price possible, this is your best bet. I snagged mine on sale for $38 which was an unbelievable deal. I highly recommend this mic and have been constantly urging anyone in the market toward picking one up.

A friend of mine let me borrow a set of these mics for a podcast style video shoot that I was producing, and I was blown away by the quality. The next day I ordered a couple of these for myself! I use a tascam X8 to do my audio recordings, and the only downside I can see on this mic is that it’s not externally powered so I had to set my recorder to Its highest gain settings to get a signal. But, the signal is very clean. These mics are very easy to set up, you literally take it out of a box and connect your XLR cable and you’re good to go. The only thing I would recommend is getting a good suspension set up so that you don’t receive any feedback from touching the mic or whatever the mic is placed on.

As someone who has recorded productions for a radio station, and was the Asst Direction of Audio production for one of the top college stations in the nation I can tell you that overall if you are using this microphone to record vocals for radio production, doing a Shoutcast stream, live stream for a podcast or music show - this microphone is great for how well it performs in those ventures. And for its price range as a dynamic microphone, it's a steal there. I have a condenser mic from MXL in a similar price range, that performs in the same manner. Both are great for doing almost any type of solo work. You can see plenty of videos of this microphone in action compared to others that are far more costly to this microphone. But all of those videos show solor podcast usage. The downside is that if you are sitting across a small table from a co-host, even with the mics facing away from each other, the mic is going to pick them up if you don't get about 3.5 to 4ft distance between the two. I was using a small folding table (4ft by 2.5ft) as a temporary solution with a new recording partner in their office. The cardioid pattern on this mic has some slight pick up from the back end. After some adjustments to mic levels and even setting a cutoff filter on our Zoom P4, it was decided that the table should be orientated to maximize distance between the microphones. I know now that it likely can't be expected for us to sit side by side to host the Texas Hemp Show recording using this microphone. We were using Shure basic dynamic microphones (even their cheap mics aren't really cheap and not worth the much extra cost to fix this issue) at a recording studio before this setup and there was not as much cross-mic pickup. I highly recommend this mic for its professional-level quality at the price point given. Beginners would be foolish to not have such a quality product in their opening arsenal. Zoom has made great recording products in the past for both film audio and broadcast journalism, and this microphone is another step into filling the podcast niche of that marketplace.

I'd watched reviews on this mic and most are very positive about its sound quality, but negative regarding its handling noise. This mic wasn't meant to be used while manually handling it, and as long as you have no vibrations occuring on the desk or mount to which this mic is setup, this shouldnt be an issue. A mic vibration mount is highly recommended regardless, as you never know if you might accidentally bump your desk or boom arm. It will help reduce the noise. Overall this mic sounds incredibly nice. The included foam windscreen should always be used especially if you're getting close to the mic. The foam windscreen also helps to dampen the higher frequencies which are boosted for better voice intelligibility. Most will prefer it dampened with the windscreen for a better sounding voice, over the boosted intelligibility without. Overall this mic is an absolute bargain for its quality of sound, with the only downside (for some probably a dealbreaker) being its handling noise/mechanical noise characteristics.

This is a great top address dynamic mic! I was going back and forth between this and the Rode Podmic, and settle in this one due to how similar they sound in comparisons I found, with this ZDM-1 actually seeming to have a little more low end. It really is an amazing podcast/broadcast style mic! The only downsides are that it does seem to be a bit more sensitive than my SM48/58's, which means in a treated room, it would be absolutely fantastic! But, if the room has some noise (like a fan or HVAC), it will probably be picked up; easy enough to edit out later. The other downside is the complete lack of any (noticeable) shock isolation. With the included mount, it will pick up every tap bang, boom within phyciscal contact of the mic (mount, mic arm, table, floor [probably]). You really need a shock mount for this mic... and at 2", this is a fat boi! All in all, I am really impressed with this mic, especially for the money! Just make sure you understand it's shortcomings. For multiperson podcasts, you might be better off with something like the Podmic or save a bunch of money, and get some SM48's (seriously, sound-wise, the same as the famous SM58).

I took a chance on this as a back up mic when the price dropped on Amazon. I had two Rode Podmics and replaced them with the Zoom. Just fits my voice better and gives that warm, studio sound quality for podcast recordings. It is truly the poor man's SM7B. Not it's equal for sure but price to value ration puts it in a the running. A note, use the windscreen and DEFINITELY by a shock mount, I recommend the: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H40VBVQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 with the windscreen, the shock mount and a decent boom arm (When you catch the sales you can still do under 100$ US. total) I promise you that your sound will be amazing.
