  • Sleep like the dead
This review is for the 12 inch, full size model. I have waited a month to review this mattress, in order to avoid prematurely declaring it a great buy. 30 days later, I can say without hesitation that this is the best mattress I have ever owned. Some background: -I am 5'11, 165 lbs. -I am strictly a side sleeper. -Previous mattresses prior to purchasing the Zinus were a Stearns & Foster (cost over $2000) that felt amazing in the store, but started to cause pressure point pain within two nights of use. Kept it to avoid the hassle of returning it until I could no longer deal with it. Next was a King Koil Laura Ashley model. Oddly, it was an improvement over the Stearns and Foster in spite of the cheap price, but it developed sagging issues and my pressure point pain never really went away. Fast forward to my purchase of this Zinus 12-inch mattress. I was extremely hesitant to purchase a mattress without trying it out first. I figured (based on the price) that it would be a cheap imitation of a Tempur-Pedic, Casper, Bed in a Box, etc. Yada yada, I decided that nothing could be as bad as my last two mattresses and purchased an entire new setup from Amazon (frame and mattress). I opened the mattress immediately upon delivery (took about 6 days) and placed it on the frame to decompress. In 30 minutes, it had "puffed up" to 10 inches, and within an hour and a half, it measured exactly 12 inches from top to bottom in all four corners. Paranoid and unfamiliar with memory foam, I decided to let it just sit there for a full 24 hours to avoid messing it up somehow. I did not notice the funny smell mentioned by some reviewers. In fact, I didn't notice any smell whatsoever. This mattress has completely relieved all of my pressure point pain. I actually look forward to going to sleep now instead of dreading it. It's firmer than I thought it would be prior to ordering, but definitely not overly firm. There is a "give" when you roll onto your side, as with all memory foam mattresses, but it's more of a "cradle" than a "sink." As far as the material "sleeping hot," I do notice it somewhat as compared to my old innerspring mattress, but it's not even close to being a deal-breaker (i.e., I haven't woken up sweating a single time). No body impressions, no sagging after one month. I think it's even more comfortable now than it was 30 days ago, if that's even possible. I have one serious regret about this mattress... that I didn't buy it sooner. ... show more

  • Just do it. ✔️
THIS BED IS AMAZING. Maybe my opinion is a little skewed, because I always used a hand-me-down old-school spring mattress (it literally had a human-sized dent in the middle where the springs went flat. You couldn't lay down or sit on the edges -- you'd just slide into the center) until I went to college, where I used a dorm bed without a topper for a year. Then I moved into student apartments, with crappy, old spring mattresses without toppers. Finally, at the start of my senior year, I have moved into my first "big girl" apartment and bought my first real mattress. I went back and forth for months, trying to figure out what all the different types were, whether size really mattered, and which would be the best fit for me. I have a physically demanding, high-stress job, I'm a side sleeper, and I have an hourglass body shape -- which my fellow ladies will know means sore hips, upper back pain, and lower back pain. The reviews on this one were really what sold me, and I'm glad I picked it because just a week in, my shoulders and lower back were already hurting so much less. While this bed is so much softer than anything I've had, I'd still say it's probably closer to a medium-firm. I put a 1.5 memory foam topper on it (DreamSerenity, $50 from Walmart) and now it's perfect. It has the firm support I need, but it's so soft on top that you just sink right into it. I absolutely love this bed, and I'll try to remember to post updates as time goes on! Opening it was lots of fun, too. I'm a 5'8, 150lbs, lower-20s female and I was able to get this full size mattress inside and in my room just fine. My roommate got an 8" queen innerspring from linenspa, and she likes it so far -- but that thing was SO heavy, she's 5'1 and was struggling even with my help. Even this one probably would have been difficult for her to handle on her own. If you need to get this upstairs and you're on the petite side, you may need to find some help. I cut it at 7:36 and it was about 9 inches by 7:41. It got to 11 inches by 7:50, and I stopped checking every few minutes after that. Not sure exactly when it got to 12 inches, but it was definitely within 25 minutes. I slept on it that night and have every night since, and haven't had any issues with it. The sides do sink quite a bit, but come on... it's a foam mattress. Of course they will. It doesn't bother me, so I still sit on the sides often. As long as you scoot up a little bit and don't sit on the VERY edge of the bed, you won't have any problems. To summarize this novel: It's a GREAT bed that will save you SO much money. If you're worried about it being too firm, just get a nice foam topper and you'll be golden. UPDATE: It has been a year and a half (ish?) since I got this bed, and it is STILL amazing. I absolutely love it. It is so darn comfortable that it is almost a problem, but one I'm happy to have. ... show more

  • Most comfortable mattress I have slept on
I ordered the Full size 12“ mattress almost a month ago. It arrived promptly, with the external packaging fully intact. The weight and bulk where less than I expected and I was able to get the mattress and the heavy duty smart base up to my second floor bedroom alone without to much hassle. Even though the external box and the white bag were undamaged, somehow there was a rip in the inner clear bag, which broke the vacuum seal and caused some minor glitches in the setup process, but I managed. I don't know if it was the result of the lack of vacuum seal or the cool temperature in the bedroom, but after three days of leaving it alone to fully expand, it only measured up at 11" at the highest spot. I was a little disappointed, but figured I should make it up and sleep on it anyway to see if I liked it, before deciding whether to a contact the company. As with any new bed, the first night I took a lot longer than usual falling asleep, even though the experience laying there was very comfortable. I'm a side sleeper who weighs around 280 lbs and a was very happy with the combination of pretty firm base support, along with the very comfortable memory foam gel infused layer. I woke up with zero aches or pains, which was amazing, because even on my best previous mattress, I'd have a minor ache or pain pretty much daily. I've now been sleeping on this mattress for over three weeks and I can definitely say it's the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. No aches or pains and I feel almost weightless on this thing. The memory gel adapts and then returns to it's normal shape very rapidly. If I do need to turn or adjust my position, I never experience and feeling of resistance. Laying in the exact same spot for an extended period can create some sensation of warmth where you make contact, but I'm amazed how quickly the surface cools right down when you move. I haven't experienced any hot days, I always run an air conditioner during warm weather, but I did have a day where the room temperature reached a higher temperature than I had anticipated, almost 77F. No sweating or feeling of excess warmth at the mattress level. I'd have to say the cooling gel design works. Over time and with use, the mattress plumped up a bit more and achieved an even height of almost 11 5/8 inches. Not sure why mine never hit the full advertised thickness, but the mattress is so comfortable I'm not worried about it. I did get a good quality waterproof mattress cover with terrycloth like surface. I had read it's especially important to keep moisture from a memory foam mattress. I'd recommend that purchase to anyone. I'm very pleased with this purchase and can't imagine how an even more expensive memory foam mattress could be any more comfortable than this one! I would recommend this to friends with zero hesitation. ... show more

  • Rolling review, looking great so far
2/3/19 Still 4 stars. It inflated to 11" 3/4, eh, close enough, 1/4 of an inch isn't make or break and it fits on my frame without sagging or looking weird so that's what matters. Other than that it inflated perfectly, no unevenness in the inflate when I let it lay on a flat floor for about 48-72 hours. I did sleep on it (carefully) within 24 hours of opening to try and get it to loosen up a little bit before setting it in the bed frame as suggested. The one edge furthest away from me left side when laying down is being squashed by the bedding, I am afraid. It was a cover that Amazon gave me and included with my purchase to as a mattress protector so I'm not prone to taking it off and un-protecting the mattress. Figure it will decompress if I can wriggle the covering around, hopefully. I have a neck curvature/back issue and if I lay with pillows my back aches horribly. If I lay flat on the bed without pillows, I wake up in the morning with reduced pain. This is a MIRACLE for me. I was sleeping on a janky airbed before desperate for some relief on my pressure points; sleeping on a traditional mattress really really really hurt so I wouldn't even bother getting one. For $200 I am not even complaining- I have relief from mind-numbing back pain, and it looks good on a frame I bought a year prior. I got the Zinus slats because my frame didn't come with enough slats to support the mattress and live has been a dream. I run home and plank my bed happily and it's always comfortable. 1/7/19 Let's start at a 4 based on everything. Yeah I saw the reviews screaming that this bed is a hot pile of doggy doo doo and to avoid, but I got a really good special and when something happened that almost borked the purchase Amazon saved the day and refunded me shipping so I feel compelled to report my results. I also basically used the money refunded to me to buy the Zinus replacement slats to go with the bed as my platform is a recessed/ "sit in" where the mattress sinks into the frame and I want it on top looking extra majestic when I show it to my future cat or dog and they proceed to destroy it. Backstory nobody asked for: Moved into my new place. Sleeping on a constantly deflating air bed. Frame just sitting there for a bed I planned to set up but wound up not setting up. Cervical neck issues and back issues. Nobody has time for this. So I research and after much hand-wringing decide on a 12"in full to fit my full platform frame . After much fan fare, I arrived home to a box at my doorstep. Dragging in this box nearly taller than me I fumbled opening it and the plastic inside and finally got the mattress out. I am only 3 hours into the 48 hour wait period and I am letting it grow big and strong into a big healthy 12"in mattress for my newly assembled platform bed. I also cranked up the heat in my place since it is roughly 0C/ 32F outside (not exaggerating, it is January) to coax the foam into taking shape faster. I lovingly try to fluff it and as it gets fluffier I pull the covering to give the edges additional room to expand. Probably doesn't need it but makes me feel like I'm doing my job. Pics wouldn't upload- first shot was it being kind of newly inflating and just being shy of 9inches. I am sitting here and literally after my last pic the edge straightened out and it is 11.5" and increasing. Being wary of compressed corners because it was kind of tight wrapped/vacuumed but they're shaping up good too. So far so good! It said to open within 72 hours but my certificate said it was made November 2018 so not sure how that works, but I did what I was told and it's working so I'm happy. Hopefully more new later on! ... show more

  • So far so good - surprisingly high quality for the price!
*Almost 4 year update - still love this bed as much as when I bought it! We actually bought a second one a few years ago, and that user loves it as well. I notice no bad sagging, and it still fills about like the day I bought it. I can tell you this, I LOVE getting into bed every stinking night! It's so comfortable. No regrets! With mattresses going for as much as $5K these days, I was leery of a $375 "bed in a box". So I will tell you what I know after my first few weeks - 1) Much to my surprise, it expanded to every bit of the 12" promised. I was skeptical, but no more. 2) It is MUCH firmer than I had imagined. That being said, I have come to appreciate the feel, it gives just enough to provide comfort. I'm a stomach sleeper, and so far I very much look forward to bedtime. I do wake up with a slight back ache from time to time, however that was happening on my old Tempur-Pedic as well. So I don't blame the mattress. 3) No odor as others have asked/complained about. 4) It might be slightly dipping where you lay, but I think that's normal. It seems to be gone each night I go back to bed, so not worried about it (yet!). So I'm 100% satisfied for now. I will try to get back here in 6 months or a year with an update. ... show more

  • Comfortable/ Lighter and Less $$ than a Tempurpedic
So I’ve had my TempurPedic mattress for 10 years now and was in search for one for my son. I went to several mattress showrooms and they were all around $3k… I was like, heck no… my current mattress is about 12” thick so I decided to look on Amazon and stumbled across this one. It has the same GreenTea gel that my bed has and they had the option to order the 12” mattress in a full size. When the package arrived, it did not have my unit number listed on it for some reason so parcel pending never notified me that it arrived on the day that it was dropped off. I had to look around the parcel pending lockers and I found a box locked in the manager’s office with the word “FULL” on it, which I assumed was meant to say “full sized mattress.” Anyway, I eventually got home and let the mattress air out and expand for over 48hrs. Today it is now 4 days and I laid it on top of my bed frame. So far it is very comfortable, however, it did not expand to be 12” thick and is only about 11” thick. Still, the mattress is a medium firm and it shapes to your body: it feels like you are sinking into a cloud. I am giving it 5 stars because it is a lot lighter than carrying my super heavy Tempur-pedic mattress. It’s also a lot more comfortable. I will be ordering a Queen size mattress for myself soon. ... show more

  • Great mattress at an amazing price.
2yr Update: For some reason in the last 2 years I've gotten three new mattresses. Two have them have been Zinus and one has been The Casper Mattress. We spent well over $1500 on the Casper Mattress with the Zone Support for my wife. In the Guest Bedroom we ordered a Queen Sized Zinus last year. In the afternoons I crank the AC and nap in the guest room, wife can't stand the cold, and I say there is a bit of a difference between the two. The Casper sleeps a bit cooler and is just a little less firm, but my wife couldn't tell the difference. For the money you get 90-95% of the Casper for 10% of the cost. As for all the negative reviews we have not experienced any issues with our mattresses. All expanded properly but we did opt for the 12in one so can't speak to smaller ones. We do have all our mattress coved by "AllerEase Ultimate Protection and Comfort Waterproof, Bed Bug, Antimicrobial Zippered Mattress Protector - Prevent Collection of Dust Mites and Other Allergens, Vinyl Free, Hypoallergenic" Mattress Protectors. We did have a smell when we opened it but it went away after couple of days while we left it alone to fully expand. Original Review: Great value. First night sleeping on the mattress was very soft (After 36 hrs of airing out), but firmed up over the next few nights. I love it and recommend it to friends. ... show more

  • 1st night of restful sleep in decades.
Simply amazing. As someone loaded with sports injuries, sleeping isn't easy. I have a lower back spinal injury, separated shoulder, dislocated collar bone, and a neck injury. Laying on one side or the other with my old mattress for more that 5 minutes was not optional and the pain would build and sleeping would be difficult. Once asleep I would wake often to try to get comfortable. On the 1st night with this mattress, I slept without injuring myself, no increase in pain and woke in less pain than the night before (hopefully a trend). I melted into it and passed out. No random waking in the middle of the night to adjust position. It is interesting as it seems neither soft or firm, you sink in a little like a plush pillow top and when you stop sinking it is firm but without building pressure points. I did a fair amount of digging when looking to replace my old mattress and while I was wary about the price, the cut-away view showed me the foam combinations I was looking for and because of the price, I didn't feel like I was risking too much. I told some people about my purchase and was immediately derided for thinking something so affordable could be comfortable. The lectures didn't stop even after I explained my research and conclusions. I can confidently say, that the notion of paying through the nose for a good mattress is mistaken. I got the 12" full size. ... show more
