The Smooth5 was a great upgrade to my old Smooth2. The handle and size felt good and the gimbal operated smoothly. I used it on both my Samsung Galaxy S8+ as well as iPhone X. The gimbal even has a "charging" feature to charge your phone while you shoot, but it really only plugged well when shooting in portrait mode. Our phones have so much battery capability, it didn't make sense to plug in anyways so I didn't use the feature. Operating was pretty straight forward. I turn the gimbal on (power button on handle) and pretty much point/shoot. I "track/follow" the subject using the trigger button back of the handle or just click/drag a box on the screen. It's pretty easy to do. The app is really good at following the subject and gimbal balances your phone for a nice, smooth shot. The features on the handle are nice too. It's straight forward so I won't bother explaining all the buttons. A few things to I had to learn (the hard way): - Make sure to balance your phone on the gimbal. If you don't balance it, you're constantly activating the motor and draining the power. Also, if it's too unbalanced, the system will shut down automatically. To balance, insert your phone into the holder and adjust the movable arm from 0-7 until your phone sits balanced. It's pretty intuitive once you start doing it. I couldn't figure out why it kept shutting down on me until I balanced it. The instructions in the manual aren't the best. Hopefully I've explained it clearly here. - You need the app to run the gimbal - ZY CAMI from the apple or play stores. It works just fine once installed. You'll have to "discover" your gimbal just like you do for your bluetooth earbuds. Nothing crazy. - Make sure you "unlock" the gimbal. There are 3 locking locations - top of handle and at both (2) rotating points. You'll notice the little black plastic stops. Make sure you turn the gimbal in the right direction. There's a 4th rotating location, but it's not an "unlock." It's where the phone is held and that rotates 90degrees to flip between landscape and portrait mode. Again, make sure you balance the phone after changing positions. Try to hold the middle of the phone as best you can. - There are 2 usb-C ports on the gimbal. One on the handle is for charging the gimbal, one nearest the phone holder is for charging the phone. As an upgrade on future models, I would suggest a longer reach for the phone holder. It would be nice if it could catch the phone a little more towards the middle in landscape mode. Also, the light simple to use, but could be brigther LEDs. Overall, it's a great gimbal for the price. You'll have to come up the learning curve, but it's straight forward. Controls are intuitive and build quality is sturdy. ... show more

After using the new gimbal a bit after a while, here are the pros and cons I found: ✅ Incredibly compact compared to its predecessor. (Smooth4 on left/top, Smooth5 on right/bottom) ✅ Superb performance and battery life. This can handle heavy phones like Samsung Ultra models and Pro Max models while being able to balance it all whilst keeping a long runtime in what I'd assume is a tiny battery. ✅ Cool looking and well-made carrying case is included alongside an eye-watering bright light. ❌ Uses a different app from its predecessor. The new "ZY Cami" app is more functional but beware of the excessive permission requests. It now requires a ZY account and forces product registration and nearly every phone permission to be granted. I get the location permission (for Bluetooth connection) and microphone & files (to save footage, duh) but local network scanning, and nearby devices is too far. I see zero reason why this needs to run a discovery scan on my home network. The only reason I could imagine is to gather data, but that's too far. Overall, I would recommend this, but be sure to keep an eye on the app to see if it's doing something nefarious, or just use it with something more trustworthy like FiLMiC Pro since it's supported there (without needing to install the ZY Cami app). ... show more

    • Great Gimbal for Heavy Phone!
I use Iphone Xmax, but the gimbal works great for me. Smooth 5 is more suitable for tech savvy person, because it has many useful functions. If you are looking for some gimbal with simple usage for beginner, Smooth2 will be a good start. Pros: 1. It has six gimbal modes: Pan Focus (best for reveal & side way shots), Locked (best for forward/ backward movement), Free (for general use), Point of View (Good to imitate eye view), Vortex (For 360 rolling), and Action (For fast action). 2. The weight of gimbal is fair weight by the stability. 3. Battery storage is great, last way longer than my phone. Cons: 1. The app, Zy Cami, it’s not as great as the gimbal, the APP needs some upgrade. ... show more

The Zhiyun Smooth 5 combo is everything I was looking for in a smartphone gimbal! A user friendly control layout (which is very similar to other higher end gimbals that I have used and own), ability to connect via blu-tooth to my phone, control stick to be able to create perfect shots, and a user friendly app that unlocks so many additional features! The light is also really handy. I will definitely be using this gimbal for my social media needs, and this will help grow my social media following so much! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Good product quality and works perfectly with my iPhone pro max 13. The gimbal is stable even after adding additional lens weight. I would recommend and buy again. Updated: It worked well for 2-3 days and then start disconnecting while shooting. The buttons are also of very poor quality. This is not good specially for iPhone. ... show more
