I used to only use the raw stuff in its natural state. But I've slowly been leaning this way. The bricks are way less messy since they're damp when you use them and so you don't get 'snow' everywhere and make as big of a mess. After trying these types of moss for about a year at this point I can say that it does no harm to your animal and no.. your animal doesn't turn green. Your terrarium just looks better. Protip - instead of dunking the whole brick into water for smaller projects, just dampen the block with a spray bottle and pull away as you go. This way the rest of your brick is still intact and you aren't stuck with a ton of extra wet moss.

I’ve been using these moss bricks for my box turtle, and they’re a game-changer! They’re damp, so there’s no messy “snow” like with dry moss. It’s safe for your animals and keeps the terrarium looking great—don’t worry, your pet won’t turn green! Pro tip: Instead of soaking the whole brick, just spray it with water and pull off what you need. This keeps the rest dry for later use. It’s clean, easy, and perfect for small projects. This is a nice block of compact moss and it easily covered my box turtles entire 48” x 24” enclosure. Traps moisture very nicely and my turtle already enjoys burrowing and walking around on it. It’s a nice natural color and smells super natural and earthy. Was super easy to break apart the block and spread it out and got super fluffy too. You get a ton with this specific product and it will definitely make for a nice extra type of bedding for my turtle!

Smells like dirt, I have never used moss before, so no idea if that is normal, it's moss so probably is. It kind of makes a mess when trying to get it out of the bag and divided up to soak. Our tortoise doesn't seem to care for it so far and it dries up pretty quickly. It does puff up quite a bit.

I've been using similar type of moss in my terrariums for a several years, and it's excellent for moisture retention. It's also easy to clean out and replace if needed. Although the color isn't as vibrant green as the moss in the image, it's still green and not yellowed, and the quality is good. You get a generous amount in one order, enough to cover my tank twice with a thin layer.
