This sifter is made of sturdy solid metal. There are no plastic or other materials anywhere on it. I bought this to remove seeds from popcorn and it does remove most seeds but it seems like there are always a few that are too large to fit through the holes. I may buy another one with slightly larger holes for the popcorn seeds and start using this one to sift rocks and stems from compost. Some of the things I really like about this sifter are: (1) Its well made and should last for a long time (2) The recessed area on the bottom allows you to put something in and it won’t just fall out unless you put too much in at once. (3) It fits perfectly inside the top of a standard 5 gallon bucket and since it is tapered the wire mesh doesn’t hit the side of the bucket. I would buy this again if I have any use for another one like this.

Didn't know what to expect for sifting potatoes and peanuts but this fits the bill. The wire mesh isn't thin. The wire is as thick as a quarter. Its pretty sturdy. Short of stepping on it accidentally, i can't see a reason this won't last seasons. If it was flimsy, I'd return it but its worth it. If i find a fault otherwise, ill update the review. Otherwise a solid buy.

This soil sieve, traditionally called a riddle, is a great piece of garden equipment that I expect to use for many years to come. It is very well-made, with no sharp edges, and is sturdy and strong while being light in weight. It just came today, and I used it immediately to sift through about 3 cubic feet of planting mix, sorting out the pieces of wood, bark chips, and rocks that plant roots don't like to have to grow around. It was much quicker and easier than my previous method. Now it's hanging on a nail in my garden shed, ready for next time. Highly recommended!

I GIVE THIS 5 STARS! Simplicity at its finest. Construction so far very sturdy. The wire mesh is thick and strong. Fits a standard 5 gal. bucket perfectly. I put the dirt in and tilt the bucket on end and roll it in a circular motion while shaking it and it shifts quick and easy. I never have to lift until I put the 5 gals of dirt into the wheelbarrow or pots. Because of ants, I sift and store dirt in blue storage barrels over winter to reclaim the dirt for the next season. I sift a lot of dirt because I grow veggies in containers. 5, 10, 15 and 20 gallons of dirt a pot. This will make my end of season cleanup a breeze. I love this sifter.
