If you’ve ever thought of setting up a smart home using Raspberry Pi and Home Assistant, it can be a daunting experience at first. This book is well organized, well written, and does an excellent job of taking a large amount of potentially confusing material and simplifying it. The chapters flow well, and the step-by-step instructions make it easy to follow without too much floundering or jumping between resources. The Zigbee and Z-Wave sections are the most helpful and standout sections. The dashboards, automations, and push notifications chapters cover some great everyday useful information. The hardware recommendations and price points are also a good way to keep your expectations in check as well.
