Description

The Yost Vises 34C 6" combination pipe and bench vise with 360-degree swivel base mounts to a workbench to provide heavy-duty clamping action, meets Federal Specification GGG-V-410B Type IV, and is made in USA. The ductile iron body has a 360-degree swivel base that adjusts the direction of the jaws for proper placement. Hand-tightening the two lock knobs on the base secures its position. The top jaws and pipe jaws are made of hardened steel, are grooved for enhanced grip, and can be replaced when worn. The pipe jaws are set back to prevent interference with the use of the top jaws and can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically, customizing the grip for each pipe to prevent marring, crushing, and bending. The jaws draw closer together or farther apart by turning the vise handle clockwise or counterclockwise. The main screw that controls the jaws has been continuous rolled for high strength and is covered by a bar to protect it from damage. A rubber washer on either side of the handle prevents unwanted sliding when turning, and the balls on each end unscrew to enable replacement of the handle if worn. The base has four 0.8"-diameter holes for mounting hardware (not included).SpecificationsJaw width (nominal)6"Jaw opening (nominal)10"Throat depth (nominal)7.5"Pipe capacity0.25" to 6"Overall dimensions16 x 10 x 24 inches (H x W x D)Weight165 lb.H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.Vises use the clamping action of jaws to hold a workpiece in place for applications such as drilling and sawing. Vise styles are categorized by how the device is mounted. For example, bench vises mount to a benchtop; drill press vises bolt to a drill press; and woodworking vises fit underneath, on top, or to the side of a workbench. A vise's jaw opening and throat depth should be large enough for the workpiece.Yost Vises manufactures a wide range of vises, including bench-mount, woodworking, and drill-press styles. The company, founded in 1908, is headquartered in Holland, MI.

  • Massive probably indestructible
Size: 6 inches
Used for metal work, repair work. Welding heavy pieces. Weighed exactly 162# on my scale, installed on a 400# table 27.5" in diameter which includes a wilton shoe clamp and a yost chain pipe vise. Made in Taiwan.

  • Five Stars with easy tweaks
Size: 4.5 inches
Out of the box, I was not happy with this vise. The handle was bent in multiple planes and there was a lot of play in the screw. I emailed Yost and asked them if they would help me or if I should send it back. They bent over backwards to make me happy. As a machinist, I can tell you that the screw is out of tolerance for a machine tool, to which I am accustomed. But it's a bench vise. To get the slop out of the screw to moving jaw, I just made a more precise washer on the lathe (from a malleable iron pipe flange). I also needed to clean the threads good and re-grease them. I made two rubber washers that fit tightly on the handle so that it could be centered, if desired. The result is a vise that is so nice and so precise that it makes me smile every time I use it. Even though the jaws of the 32C are only 4 ½" wide, it is very deep and opens wide. The jaws are perfectly aligned and the action is smooth. I'm giving it five stars with the easy tweaks. ... show more

  • Heavy, expensive, seems like great quality!
Size: 5 inches
It’s heavy, 96lb sounds correct. Mine was dropped for sure, the handle was bent pretty bad(not vices fault). Smooth, strong- I’m glad I got it, but not sure I would want it even as a free gift... would probably be just as happy with a $350 Yost 880 or similar. I got it for home use, small projects on car etc, not a mechanic but wanted “the best”, wish it would have a double anvil thing... Also, it’s pretty tall, taller than I was expecting- make sure you don’t have a tall table to install it on! ... show more

  • This is the best vice I have ever seen
Size: 5 inches
This is the best vice I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra money, and you will thank yourself every time you use this vice. The action is super smooth and precise. Make sure you have a sturdy top to mount it to because at 96 lbs it’s a real beast!

  • Great Vise
Size: 4.5 inches
I bought this vise because I wanted a solid american made vise. It very well made and very smooth. The jaws are straight and true. I highly recommend it.

  • This is not made in the USA
Size: 3.5 inches
The Yost company from 1908 no longer exists. It is owned by importer Eastwood tools. I purchased this vise solely because I have an older Yost vise that I am happy with. The listing states that it was made in the USA. It is not. It is made in China/Taiwan. The quality of the vise seems good and I plan to keep it however, I will take no pride in ownership. I will probably beat on it a little harder than normal, I may leave it outside in the rain and I'll always scowl when I look at it. I will hope that it breaks just so I can say its a piece of junk. Maybe it will prove me wrong, but I'll always consider it an imposter. I gave it three stars because although it is not manufactured in the USA, the tool importer still employs a lot of Americans in order for people like me to be duped by them. I will update this review if it turns out to be a piece of junk, until then this vise has been sentenced to hard daily labor in a real shop. ... show more
