I read in a motorcycle magazine some time ago that some helmet makers just slap the DOT sticker on a helmet regardless of whether it's up to snuff or not. So I don't know exactly how much protection this helmet provides, but in any case it's better than nothing. Having said that, I really like this helmet. I quit Harleys after four of them and prefer a maxi-scooter now (more fun), and this is the perfect helmet for me. It's extremely light and comfortable and even looks good. I had to do some fiddling to adjust the straps to my liking, but once that's done the ratchet buckle makes it extremely easy to use with no more fiddling—quick on and off. It would be great if the lining were removable, but that's not to be expected in a helmet costing less than $50. I ordered the XL size, which I usually wear, and it fit me perfectly—snug but not too tight. I sort of forget I even have it on. The inside shape is medium oval, which fits most heads. Because it does have some padding (actual protection), it is a little higher on top than the "novelty" (non-DOT) helmets that some riders wear, but it definitely doesn't have the mushroom look. I also like the polo-style visor, which provides a little help in bright sunlight without looking goofy. ... show more

This helmet is comfortable, trim, light, and fit perfect. It could use some improvement in the straps, like cloth at the ear areas, but other than that it is ideal for riding. A cool looking helmet.

First impression, this helmet is amazing! Light weight, fits like a glove, amazing quick release strap, and no mushroom head! Best helmet I've owned in over 15 years of riding and probably10 helmets bought or used. I do have to question the DOT certification though, yes it has the decal, but can something this thin and lightweight really meet the stringent DOT requirements? Recently needed to get a DOT approved helmet to ride my SXS on a new trail system. I hate wearing helmets on a sxs. ATV, yes I will 100% wear a full faced helmet, but not on a sxs. I had been wearing a super light and comfy helmet that was basically a bicycle helmet. I tried on dozens that made my head look like a mushroom and were so heavy I felt like an infant trying to hold up my head. I stumbled upon this one and am so glad I did. The fit is fantastic for my head. Measure your head first! Mine measured out to be within the L size, and it feels amazing. It is extremely low profile, like very low profile. It's honestly probably tighter to my head than the glorified bicycle helmet I was wearing before. Is it actually DOT approved? Couldn't tell you, but I bet it's probably not. But, the DOT paint on the back looks legit and it will keep me from getting a ticket! If you're going to be riding a motorcycle, I might look into something that is a little heavier duty to protect you from the hardtop. But if you are needing one for my same purpose, do it and don't look back! ... show more

Helmet is pretty much perfect. I’m a size 7 5/8 hat and ordered the XL. A smidge big but really not by much. Just had to tighten the strap all the way and it fit like a glove with little to no wiggle room. I have a large face and it doesn’t give me mushroom head at all. So even if you have a slender face it would be just fine. I highly recommend this helmet. Great helmet at a great price. ... show more
