Pretty solid starter dumbbell set for beginners. If the price were higher I might give it 4 stars but it's SO CHEAP that I can definitely overlook some imperfection. If you are just starting out, this is a well-built set that comes with enough weight to keep you busy, and since it uses standard 1-inch plates, it's very cheap to add more weight in the future. In fact, I might buy an entire second set so I can always have multiple dumbbells/bars preconfigured before I start my workout. Having the bar attachment is a definitely a plus too. In normal use, it works really well. The following are my only "gripes": - The locking nuts on the sides seem to slowly loosen over time. This was never an issue when using it, but I noticed that if I roll.the dumbbells out of the way for a different exercise and then pick them up again, I need to make sure they are still tight. - When using it as a barbell, the bar CAN just be screwed into each dumbell with the weights already on, but then you may have some plates in the way of your arms. If you have a super wide built and hold the bar by the dumbell handles, it might be fine, but with an average build it seems just a bit wide. The barbell being narrower by a few inches would help, but if you have that problem, you need to basically remove the weights from the inside of the bar and put them all on the outside. That just makes the conversion take a bit more time but it's much more like a traditional barbell that way. This is not really a gripe, but more of a note. The weights are spot on, but the weights of the handles and barbell attachment are different. The handles are 4lbs each and the barbell attachment is 2lbs.

After doing a few workouts with these, I can say I'm glad I got them. I was originally going to spring for fancy quick adjustable dumbbells costing almost $1000, but decided to give these old school ones a try before the big purchase. The larger plate diameter adds a different feel than you get with hex dumbbells, and they are of great quality as well. A bonus with these is you can use the plates with an ez curl or straight barbell and get a lot of value for your money. Another thing to keep in mind is, the quick adjust dumbbells are easily breakable, and these are literally bulletproof. The extra time it takes to adjust is minimal, especially considering all the quick adjust models require you to set them in the cradle to change weight. The only complaint I have was I needed to buy a rack for the plates.

Based on reviews I read, I was expecting to get something decent for the low price, but not that great. And at least a little dirty and worn. What I received was much better than that. Everything is shiny and new, and in clean pristine condition. The weights look freshly painted and are clean, the bars and collars are shiny and chromed. The collars spin on and off quickly and easily. Everything fits tightly, there is no rattling or clanging. Nothing was dirty or greasy as some reviews reported - I started using these right out of the box and have not cleaned them. Maybe this seller has improved their quality control. I would prefer the grips on the bars to be a little wider in diameter, but that is personal preference. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. An incredible bargain at the current price as of December 2024.
