After a nasty bout of diverticulitis, I struggled with all kinds of digestives issues essentially amounting to IBS. All the dr. said was to take probiotics, which did not help. After several months I learned about l-glutamine and psyllium from an internet forum, where the people suggested my intestinal lining may have been nuked from the infection and antibiotics during the diverticulitis episode. After using psyllium and mixing in l-glutamine, I am well on my way to recovery. I think now the probiotics are actually being effective as well. I've got more to heal but this is amazing. Why didn't the dr. suggest this for recovery? Anyway as other reviewers mentioned its a bit hard to get down...taste and consistency, I just mix with water and down the hatch. But the benefits are so worth it I can overlook the taste, it truly is nothing short of a miracle after what I been through over several months, finally something worked. ... show more

I'm typically very open to new flavors, or at times, I even enjoy certain flavors that the majority do not, such as, protein shakes, spinach, etc. but man, this stuff is disgusting. It smells similar to pennies/copper. What's funny is, upon ordering this, I told my significant other that I do not need a healthy product to taste good, referring to other fiber type products that have added sugar. If it's good for me, or will help me, just throw it down the hatch and get it over with...right? Easier said than done with this one. I remember the first time I began gagging on this stuff, my significant other said, "maybe this is why people prefer the stuff with sugar in it". I thought, touché. The first couple of weeks were the worst, I'd shake it in a bottle and chug it down, with a water "chaser" sitting nearby. It's weird too, if you don't drink it right away, within 10 minutes or so, the water turns into a slimy, thick, gelatin type substance, which is even more pleasant going down the hatch haha. I'm on a low calorie diet, so I needed to add fiber into my routine, and all in all this has served it's purpose well. Seeing what it turns into to after sitting in water, actually helped me understand how bulking products work. Long story short, it does help, and if you're curious about the flavor when mixed in water alone, imagine a glass of water with bland shredded wheat, and pennies at the bottom of the cup. Whether you add lemon, mix this in juice, or drink it straight like me, whatever you do, just try to get it down, quickly. ... show more

I've been dealing with constipation my whole life. Usually poop once, maybe twice a week. I've tried all kinds of stuff to go more, but nothing ever keeps the BMs consistent. So since I was backed up, the first few days were kind of a "cleansing" process. All I'm saying is invest in some wipes and air freshener if you're in the same boat! Today (I started last Tuesday), things are running like clockwork. I've never been this regular! The taste isn't bad with water, kind of wheat-ish. But like someone else said, it's kind of like super-pulpy orange juice. Stir quickly, drink it down as fast as you can or it will start thickening up on you. Very Good. We went through two containers of these before trying the Organic from India. Comparatively, the Organic from India is better for mixing and smoothness. In any case, you should try at least two brands/types. I use this on eggs for breakfast, adding olive oil as well -enough to semi-soak up the husks. Just throw two tablespoons of this down on the plate -instead-of bread(that is a key to saving calories!) , mix eggs and egg whites up and do that for a few weeks. I've had IBS for years, and what can I say but that if I remember to take this every day, I turn into someone with almost no IBS symptoms. Vileness, runniness, movement urgency, abdominal discomfort, and irregularity are all significantly reduced. It's like I'm a functioning member of society again! I'm no longer plagued by disgusting farts or getting ambushed by the guerilla sh*ts. I guess the only downside is that choking it down isn't super pleasant. The flavor is a bit... odd, and the mucilaginous consistency does sometimes catch in my throat just a little bit. Mix it with plenty of water, and wash it down with a bit of water as well. Small price to pay for being freed from bowel tyranny and its attendant inconveniences and embarrassment. I like to take a heaping tablespoon first thing in the morning and at night about halfway between dinner and bed. I probably get about 2.5 servings per day. ... show more

I had been having problems for awhile and my fried turned me onto this. I took 2 tablespoons with dinner for 3 nights in a row. On the 4th day I had the biggest shit of my life. I discovered psyllium whole husks back in the early 1980s. I went to a health food/vitamin shop. The owner told me that psyllium whole husks would be like scraping your colon clean. It is pure fiber and helps to work waste out. I mix mine with orange juice. I have to say that its like putting sawdust in your juice. I have not been able to find it in my little town and when I saw it on Amazon, I did not hesitate to purchase it. I highly recommend this with juice and lots of water. ... show more
