  • Easy, Even, DeIight First Time out
I love this mouthpiece. I'm a beginner on soprano, though I own a tenor and alto on which I use big Brilharts. I recently bought a Taishan Winds curved soprano and was warned that the supplied mouthpiece would be disappointing, so I had this 5C at the ready with a Hemke 3 reed and the Kmise A1819 Leather Ligature. My first sounds were pure joy .. even and full from Bflat to E -- I still haven't figured out how to achieve the high F. There's nothing like imprinting on a GREAT experience. AFter I played a bit with that , then I dressed my supplied mouth piece and had wonks and squeaks that I didn't have on my maiden voyage with the Y5C. I thought a good thing could be better so I tried the Rico Graftonites in B5 and B7. Neither worked for me and I tried different reed strengths 2.5, 3 and 3.5 on them. BTW - I bought a sax baffle for my Taishan-supplied mouthpiece and it has made a world of difference. I've also tried the Y6C and find that to be a more challenging embouchure. I am so grateful for the Y5C- it makes moving forward on this new embouchure and new horn, fun, something I can't wait to play, everyday. ... show more

Yamaha makes quality mouthpieces. Its a lot better then the default mouthpiece I got with my new Chinese soprano saxophone. And it also cheap and doesn't cost half of the saxophone like other more pricey mouthpieces. Take into account that if your are new to soprano sax it is going to be difficult at star to get a decent sound no matter which mouthpiece you get. ... show more

  • Soprano Sax Moutthpiece
This is the standard mouthpiece for the Soprano sax by Yamaha. It is a good general mouthpiece that will meet most players needs. With the right ligature it will serve you well. You need to use Mouthpiece cushions to keep tooth marks in check. I played with the origional one for 20 plus years. There is little difference in the 5C and the 4C but the reed you use will tell the real story. ... show more

  • A good starter mouthpiece
I dove in on another “off brand” saxophone from here on Amazon. Usually, the biggest issue with them is the mouthpiece. So, I didn’t want to go headlong into a super expensive one but the tried and true Yamaha series was a vast improvement over the included one. I am relatively new to the saxophone scene and am still working out opening sizes before going for the premium models. My music tutor suggested using the Yamaha mouthpieces as they are well made and are supplied with many of their own instruments. No ligature nor cap is included, so order one if you don’t have one. ... show more

  • Good, inexpensive mouthpiece
Good, inexpensive soprano mouthpiece. Works well, free blowing, very reed friendly. A good choice if the sop is not your main axe-I play mostly tenor but occasionally get called to play sop.

  • Excellent mouthpiece, general-purpose
Even response throughout registers, good intonation, nice feel in embouchure. This is an excellent mouthpiece for general and "legit" soprano work.
