Description

Revstar II refines the look, sound, and feel of Yamaha’s original Revstar® guitar series—and the two Japanese-made Professional Series models are the new flagships in the lineup. The RSP02 is available in two café racer-inspired finishes with an original custom tailpiece in addition to carbon reinforcement in the neck and the chambered body—a concept developed using Yamaha’s exclusive Acoustic Design process to enhance tone, reduce weight, and ensure optimal balance. Dual P90-style pickups, combined with a 5-position pickup selector and a passive push/pull Focus Switch, provide uncommon versatility from a two-pickup guitar. A deluxe hardshell case is included.

Top Amazon Reviews

  • Beautiful marriage of old school aesthetics with modern guitar engineering
Color: Swift Blue
Firstly, I want to state I purchased this from a dealer and not through Amazon. The MIJ Yamaha revstar standard is just a wonderfully made instrument. Apologies in advance for not having the most concise review lol Build Quality/Aesthetics: Out of the box mine was perfectly setup. The swift blue is a beautiful saturated color with a slight tint of green. On all of the Japanese models theres a nice cherry transparent finish on the back of the body and neck whereas the Indonesian ones have more of a transparent black. Love the style of thin block inlays Yamaha came up for these. It’s a really slick look. The attention to detail and the overall fit and finish is fantastic through and through. Fretwork was flawless and the binding is gorgeous. There’s also things under the hood like carbon fiber reinforcement in both the neck and body. It’s a very rock solid guitar. Playability: The neck is a satin finished medium C neck with a fairly nice taper. It’s definitely not a thin neck so that might be your jam or it might not be. The stainless steel frets combined with the fairly flat 13-3/4” radius is just a joy to play. The set neck joint is a wonderful improvement over the traditional Gibson style neck joint. Tuning stability is pretty solid. If there was one criticism it would be the lack of non locking tuners although the stock tuners mechanically aren’t bad at all. Has a lot of qualities of LP without the headaches of an LP. Sound: This model is equipped with two Yamaha designed p90s. Honestly I really like these pickups and I don’t feel any need to swap them out for any of the excellent aftermarket offerings out there. They sound marvelous clean and with gain. Obviously with them being single coils there’s to be some hum at higher gain levels. The five position blade switch gives you a lot of tonal variety with the in-between positions being out of phase. There’s a push pull pot on the tone control which they’re calling the “focus switch”. This is basically a non battery powered mid boost that darkens the sound. Sounds really good for jazz fusion in my opinion . Probably the one setting you will either get a ton of mileage out of or won’t use at all. Case: It’s a pretty nice rectangle Yamaha-branded hardshell case that can be locked as well. Included is a QC certificate from Yamaha that’s also been signed by the builder. It’s a pretty cool addition. ... show more
