Top Amazon Reviews

  • Rated 5 stars initially, but I have to lower it.
Style: Standard Plus Maple Fingerboard Color: Sparkle Blue
This is an edit. My original review is below. I want to note that you can't really tune this lower than a half step down without it buzzing. You would need bigger strings or to raise the action. This guitar is the ultimate package if you're trying to get this instead of a fender. Fender is overpriced and many times ive felt fret sprout off the fretboards when i picked one up. Theres almost nothing special about a fender that makes it worth it. This yamaha however...when you spend extra on a yamaha instrument they actually give you value. The guitar is gorgeous, and they give you a very nice case for travel. The action is very low when you get it, which i did have to raise the two biggest strings a bit to remove buzzing, and then pull back the string holder to get my intonation right since the big e string on the 12th fret went a bit high pitched, but that wasnt too hard. The frets off the side of the board had a minimal amount of extension, which i fixed by using a leather glove and running my hand up and down the sides of the fretboard a few times. Now the fretboard is very smooth. The middle pickup has that wangy, very lively sound for jazz or blues, and the humbucker is great for rock. The neck pickup sounds very good and would be better for softer smoother playing. I changed my strings to ernie ball paradigm, and the guitar plays and feels even better. Im a big fan of graphtech products, and the TUSQ nut is the best nut you can get on a guitar. For the $1000 i paid for it, this destroys a stratocaster. What i mean is if you have a high budget and want to spend a higher amount, you can feel comfortable with standard plus. There's no fear about their build quality or the structure of the guitar. It's very solid and any imperfections are easily fixable. I love this guitar so much. ... show more

  • Nice Guitar at a nice price
Style: Standard Plus Maple Fingerboard Color: Sparkle Blue
Good fit and finish, factory set up was good although I did remove some tension to the truss rod to flatten the neck a little. The frets seem to be level with no buzzing even at the low action from top to the bottom. The pickups sound good, a usable variation from Strat noiseless, fat 50’s, or silver sky, not twangy good midrange punch they seem to push the amplifier more than the Strat pickups, Archon, BJ lll or Supra. Great guitar for the price maybe twice the price. It doesn’t have Fender on the head stock for what its worth. ... show more

  • A good guitar, but not great
Style: Standard Plus Maple Fingerboard Color: Black
This guitar gets excellent reviews from many people. It has an excellent build quality and obviously high end components and finish. The neck is very smooth and fast. It is quite lightweight. Very modern feel. Should be a fine guitar. But… I find the neck and middle pick ups noisy. Beyond what I’d expect from single coils. You can get rid of it with a noise gate or by selecting neck + middle or middle plus bridge positions which gives a form of humbucker. I’ve had many fender strats and sold them all but I’m keeping the Pacifica although it won’t be a “go to”guitar for me. The tone is just too shrill to my ear. But it has its place in a mix. Did try getting some richer blues or jazz tones out of it rolling off treble and setting up my amp. It sounded ok. I think I’ll just need to work at it and get to like it. So don’t let me put you off. This is way better made than a Fender at a comparable price point and if you want and like a strat sound it is a good buy. Edit, tried some 10 gauge pure nickel strings from D’addario. Improved the tone markedly. Heavier strings than the stock (which are 9’s) and the pure nickel instead of nickel coated steel produced much richer tone. ... show more

  • Just a great guitar
Style: Standard Plus Color: Sparkle Blue
Bought this in used/ good condition and there's not a mark on it. Spent a couple of hours noodling on it yesterday and I'm really impressed by the guitar. The fit & finish is excellent. The Gotoh hardware is quite nice and the pickups are extremely impressive, quiet yet very toneful and rich and the coil split for the humbucker actually gives you a convincing single coil tone, which is sort of a first in my experience. There's nothing thin about the tone. This isn't a "punch you in the mouth" shredder at first blush. In fact it is a "musical instrument", a scalpel. A really fine guitar. I have maybe ten S-type guitars, mostly American made by you-know-who, and this guitar is more refined and articulate than any of them. Tone-wise, it covers all of the classic strat tones I could throw at it which, again, is sort of a first for me since I tend to have one guitar that'll do this tone well, one for that tone, etc. Thank you Amazon for a great deal on a superb instrument. ... show more

  • Outstanding professional quality and sound
Style: Standard Plus Color: Sparkle Blue
Like most other reviewers, I found build quality to be world-class professional. The pickups produce incredible sound. shape of neck-body connection at high frets is really comfortable on the hand. Best electric guitar I have ever played by far.

  • Fantastic Guitar
Style: Standard Plus Color: Shell White
This is a FANTASTIC guitar! The fit and finish is excellent. The tones are incredible! Stainless steel frets, locking tuners ...very nice. Yamaha hit it out of the park with this one! The pickups are toneful but extremely articulate, without being brittle or harsh. Great guitar!
