  • Great guitar at this price point
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
This is a great guitar at that price point. Has very high quality tuners on it. A beautiful finish and a nice mellow sound, not quite as bright as a spruce top guitar but it is beautiful sounding. One reviewer mentioned that the original shipping box from Yamaha was badly torn, mine was also and I thought the guitar was damaged but when I took it out and looked at it there was not a scratch on it. I am amazed that that guitar was not damaged the way the box looked. My guitar came from cream City music in Wisconsin, they inspected the guitar and did a player set up on it before they shipped it. All that being said, this is not just a beginner's guitar this is for an intermediate guitar player. I'm sure you'll enjoy this guitar ... show more

  • A Yamaha Triumph!
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
A solid mahogany top, beautiful workmanship, charming sound and intoxicating beauty that will lead you into the guitar. Mellow and deep lows with an exacting midrange with bright but not overwhelming highs. Made from all Mahogany, this solid top guitar conjures soft jazz, quiet ballads and exacting accuracy for the occasional classical piece. It’s definitely a steel string guitar, but let your hands and heart control the soft tones that only Mahogany can provide. Mother of pearl inlay, newly designed scalloped bracing for the top design allows for truer tones, resonance and intonation. The stock tuning keys are accurate and snug, and produce no interference with the typically thin strings trusted by Yamaha. I selected .10 to 52. Nicely satisfied and proud to add this to a 38 year old collection of Yamaha guitars. The fit and finish is as nice as expected and will be a conversation starter. Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Yamaha FG850 Solid Mahogany Top Acoustic Guitar
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
I have owned the Yamaha FG850 Solid Top Acoustic Guitar for 6 years now and it sounds better everyday! It has a warm tone and is not as loud as my Yamaha FGX5 Red label, which makes it perfect for late night practices. After spending $15 on new bones and working the frets smooths, it stacks up against guitars 4 times the price. The FG850 is what you would expect from a company with factories all over the world. Yamahas are undervalued by the guitar experts, but I love them because Yamaha knows how to build them right at a great price. ... show more

  • Great guitar. Abysmal packing at factory/warehouse.
Style: Guitar Size: Concert Set: Guitar Only
Guitar 1. Amazon 0. Second bad experience with musical instrument packaging from Amazon. The Yamaha FS850 is a beautiful looking, playing and sounding guitar, so the reviews online were right, and I’m glad I have one. Yamaha seems like an underrated guitar brand. It’s fit and finish is surprisingly great for a cheap guitar. It played virtually setup out of the totally shredded box. This guitar is quiet but has a focused resonance that records very well. It has a folky woody sound that’s not overly bright. Love that. Amazon and Yamaha bad packaging: WARNING!!!!! It’s not the guitar’s fault- but this is for Amazon- the box the guitar came in looked like it was run over by a folk lift. Or ripped by a Tyrannosaurus rex. It was torn and retaped in several places. I don’t know if it was returned or the box alone was damaged. It did not happen in transit as the outer box had no damage…. So Amazon packed it this way. And…No fragile markings. No paper or foam. Ridiculous. Amazon- do better. Wtf? Amazon seems to not care about musical instruments. I purchased here as I had Amazon gift cards. Also- Yamaha… wtf? This is the box you used to pack the guitar? No reinforcement or foam? Do better Yamaha. Miraculously the guitar itself doesn’t appear to be damaged, but perhaps deep micro cracks could have happened which could later shorten its life. Will evaluate during the return grace period. Hopefully not as I love this instrument. My advice is to consider carefully before buying fragile instruments from Amazon. Guitar seems very durable given this wrecked box. ... show more

  • Sweet surprise.
Style: Guitar Size: Concert Set: Guitar Only
Absolutely blown away by how well this guitar looks and plays. Great action level right out of the box. Perfect size, comfortable to play. Gear for beginners and seasoned players. At this price point, can’t be beat.

  • Very Good Value
Style: Guitar Size: Dreadnought Set: Guitar Only
I'm a loop artist and this guitar is ideal. This Yamaha is light weight with a beautiful.bright tone. I put in a pure mini pickup and it sounds superior to my other acoustic with the factory installed pickup. Frets are inset lower so you can set the action for smooth lead playing. It has a thicker neck too for firm gripping technique. It's not an all mahogany wood guitar, mostly spruce but very good tone. So glad to have a Yamaha back in the family. ... show more
