There are very few boxes or speaker stands to elevate tower speakers for a home entertainment system...but I found that these units when inverted (turned upside down) were the perfect size and strength. I only wish they were painted black. I'm sure they're fine for storage purposes as well...but electronics / home entertainment manufacturers should take note and offer more options rather than have consumers scramble and look elsewhere for a suitable solution to elevate tower speakers.

First off, this box comes unassembled. You need to screw together 5 different sides (including the bottom). This would be much easier if the holes were pre-drilled in every wood side, so people could be certain they were matching up the sides in an even/level fashion. And at this price point, they probably should be. As it is, only the entrance points on the "exterior" sides/corners are pre-drilled, so you need to be careful to ensure the recipient board is level at the corners before screwing into it. (You'll probably want to hand-screw the screws at the top and bottom of each side, and then power-drill the center screws to save time.) The wood itself is very lightweight and soft, almost like balsa (which it may actually be), so it's fairly easy to screw into. This could also potentially compromise the overall sturdiness of the box, but it should be fine for my purposes, especially since you have four screws along each corner/side. Ultimately, I got this product for half-off the normal price, because it had been returned previously. It did look like new, and at that price point, I'm okay with the assembly requirements, and the finished product. For $30, I'd want all the holes pre-drilled. But it's at least real wood, and looks decent, and every other wooden box I saw online was even more. P.S.: The box comes with plastic dowels as well as metal wood screws. I ignored the dowels and just used the screws, as using the dowels would require even more preparatory drilling into the unprepared sides, with a larger power drill, and could easily ruin those sides. I'm honestly unsure why those dowels are even included. The instructions don't reference them (or any preparatory drilling) at all.

The box is very sturdy and attractive...once you put it together. The product details don't tell you that this comes in four pieces and you'll have to screw it together. It comes with the hardware and a screwdriver. It also has an overwhelming stain smell right out of the box. I have it airing out on my porch. Additionally, when I was putting it together, the stain actually rubbed off onto my shirt and on my hands. I had planned to use it for some spare towels but don't want to chance the stain transferring onto them.

So not worth the money - go to Ross or Marshalls and get the already assembled boxes for the same price or cheaper. The only reason I am not returning them is because I spent the time putting them together and I don't want to have to spend the time to take them apart and put them back in a box and take a trip to town to drop them off at the shipping center. The screwdriver included does not work to tighten the screws - I know everyone has a screwdriver - so the not working one is not needed. I need several, but got these 2 because I needed a matching pair and wanted to see how these would be - so I will definitely be purchasing them from a retailer where there is no assembly required and they are sturdier.

I ordered four of these. One of them came cracked, but was still functional so it didn’t bother me too much. They were so cute in our space and, I thought, would be more sturdy since they’re wooden. Wrong. They are cheap and every single one broke within a year. Just split in half and broke off a big chunk, usually around the handle. I love the idea of these, but save your money and go another route.
