  • So heavy duty, just turning the ratchets to assemble it is a great arm workout!
This rack is of excellent, excellent quality that is really hard to find in the residential market (particularly at this price of $135). As far as I can tell, this is built with commercial specs, and I would have no qualms about putting this thing anywhere, regardless of the amount of weight it's going to support or the amount of use it's going to get. Everything is heavy duty - the steel, the welds, and the bolts. Ironically, I almost hurt myself picking the box up, because it was so much heavier than I was anticipating. Assemble with care and ask for a friend's help, if possible! The design is great on this rack. The placement of the levels is perfect, so you can easily reach the dumbbells (on some racks, they're too close and everything is jammed together). It also helps that it looks nice (since it's going in the home) and it features a heavy duty finish that will wear well. The racks are designed for standard size dumbbells, so if you have real small weights, they might fall through. However, this can easily be rectified. I left the bottom two racks as designed, for my heavier dumbbells. On the top rack, I simply reversed the placement of the bars, so that there is a lip in the front that can hold the smaller stuff. Then I threw a couple of baskets on the top rack, which are used for holding resistance bands, very small dumbbells, headphones, etc. Yes, you WILL need some pretty hardcore sockets to put this together (17mm), but I wouldn't have it any other way. I wanted something heavy duty that would last forever and be able to support hundreds of pounds of weight without issue, as opposed to something lightweight that's easy to assemble. If you don't own the tools to assemble this, please do yourself a favor and invest in a good socket set ($50-$100). Yes, it can be done with those two adjustable wrenches you have lying in the bottom of your kitchen drawer, but it will take you all day and your wrists will hate you for it. You are presumably a homeowner if you're buying this rack, and a good socket set will be worth its weight in gold to you as you tackle projects and repairs in the future (not to mention the assembly of more gym equipment!). ... show more

  • XMark and Amazon both got it right here!
I initially ordered this through Amazon and the product arrived pretty quickly but was a mess when it arrived. It is pretty heavy for a UPS or FedEx delivery, and they ship it in a heavy cardboard box which is fairly long and narrow, held together with bands. As a result, the entire end of the packaging was torn off when I arrived home and found it waiting in my driveway. I've been down this road before so I simply reached out to Amazon to arrange a replacement and left it where it sat. The carrier showed up a couple days later and took it away -- I never touched the box! It was great! A week later, a replacement showed up, as if by magic, and did so intact -- no damage to the packaging this time. I lugged it into the house and down to the gym in my basement, got out the wrenches and slapped it together. Assembly is pretty straightforward -- just nuts, lock washers and bolts. There are bolts in two lengths but the instructions are very clear about where they go so even I could not screw it up! <grin> I was a little concerned about stability at first but found it became increasingly stable with every bolt that I torqued down. After assembly and loading, I can tell you it is solid as a rock. I've got it loaded up with hex dumbells -- 50, 55 and 60's across the bottom; 35, 40 and 45's across the middle; and 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30's across the top. I'm eager to rotate 65's in at the bottom and the 10's out at the top soon! This rack provides a lot of bang for the buck compared to everything else I've seen out there. Are there better constructed units out there? Yes, but the better construction is not needed for most people. I doubt that I'll ever advance to warming up with dumbells that are over 100# each but if I do, I'll look to use this rack for storing lighter weights and getting one that is overbuilt to hold the 100, 105, 110 and associated dumbells! ... show more

  • High quality dumbell rack.
This rack is made of heavy gauge steel and the hardware-bolts, nuts, washers-are also solid. I was able to torque on them with a large ratchet with no problem. Heads did not chew up and shafts did not break. Another plus is that each successively lower rack sits out from the one above so as you you reach for lower racks, you don't bump your head on the higher ones. The directions are clear and the illustrations are easy to see unlike some products were it's all a blur. I assembled myself (about 1.5 hours). I consider myself a little above average as far as using hand tools. A novice would probably do well to have a helper to hold up the cross bars while you tighten the bolts. You will need two wrenches or ratchets with an 11/16 inch socket or head. It would not be a bad idea to tell you in the instructions what sized tools you would need. Some people complained that the bolt hole did not line up. If you had that problem you were not doing it correctly. The company added a flyer with an number to call for technical help. I have nothing negative to say about this rack. ... show more

  • Good quality, but don't follow the instructions
It's better if you tighten as you assemble, from the bottom up, rather than what it says in the instructions. It says to wait until everything is assembled until you tighten any of the bolts. But if you do that, it's much more difficult to make sure all the parts are at 90 degree angles.
