I bought this to replace my old egg cutting device that had a bunch of points that cut a circular pattern around the egg but frequently broke more of the shell than I wanted. The cutting device works fine. It needs to be pulled back the full way before releasing and I find that stabilizing the egg with my had helps. The top of the egg rarely comes off spontaneously. I almost always have to use the tip of a knife to complete the job but the end result is clean. the spoons that come with it are a nice size and the finish makes them easy to clean. The egg cups are flimsy and hard to clean. Ill probably invest in some ceramic egg cups if I come across some I like. HInt: I started buying brown eggs because it is much easier to spot the occasional tiny big of shell that is close to the edge of the cut and might end up being scouped up when starting to eat the egg.

I love soft boiled eggs, but slicing with a knife over the years has gotten tedious, these remove that stigma, however the learning curve is that if you don't hold the egg and egg cracker together, the bottom of your egg will get crushed as the force telegraphs down more than into the cutting ridge, you will burn your fingers a bit until you get good at it, then your a veteran egg cracker and these are very good!! I would suggest to the manufacturer that they make the cutting ridge inside the cutter a little more pronounced, and angled up juuusst a hair. over all?? a very good product, minus the learning curve.

I have been eating soft boiled eggs this way since I was a kid. My mom grew up in South Africa and I guess this is how they do their eggs. I love how the topper makes a cut all around the egg. I had one egg where the shell came off with the topper. Wish that would happen every time but I thing that has more to do with the eggs and how they are cooked. The cups are light but fit the eggs perfectly. I thought I would not use the spoons but they work great at getting out all the egg from the shell. This product is worth the money.

NICE!!! It's all good. If you are right-handed. Place the soft-boiled eggs in cold water after boiling for 6 minutes in my case, not 5 minutes for better results. Then with your left hand hold the egg in the cups firmly by making a circle with your index finger and thumb. With the right hand, set the inverted cup side of the striking apparatus onto the top of the egg and also hold firmly down. Then, fully extend the spring-loaded plunger and stay still... then release! Wiggle the striker cup left to right then 90 degrees side-by-side before attempting to lift the striker cup. The shell and top part of the egg will normally separate nicely with a nearly perfect circumference cut line around the base of the egg. Sometimes the egg stays connected to the base, but most of the time the top part of the egg comes off with the striker cup. Nice contraption.
