You really can play these anywhere. My brother and I played on a coffee table, the dining room table, and the kitchen island. Each had a different surface that made the ball bounce slightly differently. This are a good gift for a college student because they need so little storage space.

I got this instead of buying a full blown table. This gave me the portability and convenience without taking up much space. It came with 2 paddles, they are OK - the glue is slightly coming off after a week. The ping pong balls are decent. Overall, I would buy again.
