I am using this trainer to teach youths how to use a defibrillator. They are now found all over the place, from shopping malls to health clubs and beyond. It mimics the actions of a typical defibrillator and, when used in conjunction with a dummy, makes for real world type scenarios. I often work with facility personnel and/or youth groups such as Scouts in emergency preparedness. Many places have working AED units in prominent public spaces but I find many people find it reassuring that they are there but are also a bit intimidated by them and hope that if ever needed there is someone “more responsible” than they around to use them. Training is a simple way to take the mystery and/or fear from people so having this practice AED unit allows them to see what would need to be done in an emergency and take some of the fear out of the unknown. This is okay for training but has one major flaw. It will charge even if the pads aren't attached to your dummy. I bought the Prestan one a couple years ago but needed a second one as my classes grew and wanted 'variety'. The Prestan needs the pads attached and will tell you if they aren't...like a real DeFib. Yes, this one is cheaper but that feature is important (reviewed by 30 year Firefighter/EMT and CPR Instructor) ... show more
