I have used “bishop tape” for years in electrical for work and my father, a retired commercial glazier, used butyl caulking my the ton so gooey black stuff I am familiar with. But this stuff is fantastic. I used it to close gaps in door panel and interior plastic pieces on a Ford Explorer V8 I have semi-restored to glory. The panels were removed by bubba, prior to my ownership, many times. So clips, hooks, etc were broken, missing, worn. Plastic in metal and plastic on plastic can sure be annoying when gaps are widened in assemblies. I saw a video that was “car audio enthusiast” tailored and butyl rubber tape was one of two products suggested. The car went from “crackle crackle pop” to pin drop silent. Only air over car is heard. Butyl rubber as a dampener is well known in the audio industry, used for the suspension on speakers to high performance. It’s a great dampener. Add it as a “fluid” shape shifting cushion on your door pane and interior piece clips/hooks, etc…. Amazing. I also used a dampening mat in small pieces to reduce some energy in the panels as well (dampen) and the combination overcame very well, the 21 year old door panel idiosyncrasies. I recommend it for this purpose but….. I’ll find more!! Midsouth (Memphis) roads are like certain war torn countries roads…… completely obliterated and bombed out. They dismantle a car better than a junkyard staff, except while you drive. Do yourself a favor and take the 30 minutes on a door panel, use a bit of the stuff and make your drive silent again like when your car was new. BTW: two doors took maybe 6 inches of material so it will stretch many, many cars and projects!

Plumbers putty is messy and does not come in a variety of colors. After selling butyl tape for years, I got the idea of using it to install my black sink baskets and drains. It worked perfectly with little to no mess! It is a perfect replacement for plumbers putty!

I purchased this butyl tape to try to address a seam in a corner weld on my seawall which has gaps of 1/16" to 3/8" but reside underwater. My plan was, to apply this butyl tape under the water (during actual installation of the tape) and hoped that forcing the flexible tape into the "crevices" of the seems would help hold it in place. On the day I did my attempt, the air temperature was in the low 70s and the water temperature was in the mid to upper 60s. The surface material I was trying to apply the butyl tape to was steel. I suspect there was no real adhesion for three reasons: #1: underwater surface makes for tougher adhesion in the first place (though with most butyl tapes, underwater adhesion is certainly achievable). In this case, this is a Chinese product, so who knows what all is mixed in with it, versus it being a 100% butyl product (like the Anderson brand). #2: temperature of the air was already on the somewhat cool side for maximizing adhesion with butyl tape, added to that, the water temperature was on the lower side for good butyl tape adhesion. I will try to install the tape again, waiting for the air temps to increase and the water temps to reach at least the lower 70s. If under these conditions, I find that the tape actual does adhere, I will update this review with the that information. For my need, sealing a gap in a corner seem of two pieces of steel (gap measurements above) below water, the width and thickness of this particular tape was sufficient, I ordered the 1/8" X 3/4" wide. You can double or triple this tape up as necessary if you are sealing a gap that varies, which is nice to be able to do. For those looking for confirmation that this butyl tape can be applied underwater (actually installed underwater), so far I cannot say that it is capable of doing this - and I can with certainty day that it cannot do it in all instances. Hopefully in the coming few weeks, I'll have an opportunity to make another try when temperature conditions are better and find that it does work. In the end, it is always nice to have a roll of butyl tape around, there are a lot of good uses for it. The one thing that concerned me and caught my eye, in the Questions section, the "seller" replied to another person's question that the tape is a silicone butyl tape. But I suspect this was just a chinese seller trying to tell the potential customer what they wanted to hear and in reality, the chinese seller really doesn't have a clue what this stuff really even is or is not.

I used this to fix the vapor barrier in my 20 year old car. Took off the door card and removed the existing butyl tape from the door which was undoubtedly not easy. (FYI-best way to take it off is to get some in a ball and keep rolling it over the tape that is on the door and pull out, away from the door.). In any case, put this product on, heated it up with a heat gun and then pressed the vapor barrier back into place. Checked it a couple of hours later. It was perfect. The vapor barrier didn’t budge at all…really, really strong adhesion. Don’t hesitate to buy. This product worked great.
