Love these! I wish they were about a 1/2” thinner but they are about as thick as a most commercial gyms rubber coated weights. I will take that over bulky bumper plates any day! They look great and most of the weights were very close to true weight. I would buy these again. The smell many mention is the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that get released after the manufacturing process. You don’t usually smell this at a commercial gym because they often buy from a warehouse where the weights have sat out for a long time and have fully off-gassed. These are direct-to-consumer and you’re likely the first to open since manufacturing so the smell will be strong. It’s not a health hazard but is annoying but will fade after a while. Soap and/or vinegar may help but it won’t likely remove it all together. The black film also mentioned by others is probably carbon black and is added during the manufacturing process for various reasons. This can be washed off with soap. I would recommend washing them as it can rub off on your hands and you probably don’t want to deal with that. I used Dawn Power Wash and my garden hose and worked just fine. It’s not going to harm you unless you maybe lick all the plates but you probably have bigger challenges at that point. ... show more

Best rubber weights for the price. Does smell like rubber pretty bad when first opening up. If I were to buy again, I'd open in an airy garage type and let sit for a week.

    • Nice quality but there's a catch.

The presentation is great, quality is great, they easily fit an olympic bar and the weights are pretty accurate. My biggest issue is the smell. There's a very unpleasant, distinct toxic, order that comes with them. It was so strong that I opened them outside and left them there to air out. The smell still remains to this day. It's lessened a bit but I've tried soap and water, bleach wipes and febreeze. The best results cane with febreeze. The plates are a little oily so I wipe them before and after but other than that, they perform as they should. Just keep in mind that they'll need to sit in a garage or outside for a few days. I'd actually recommend opening them outside because that smell is going to hit you hard fresh out of the package if you're in an enclosed space. ... show more
