  • Just Perfect
I already own the first XBOX 360 (the white one) and the XBOX 360 Elite (the black one). The Elite started giving me the one red light and I brought it in to a local shop to get it fixed. Now it happens every two months or so and I'm getting tired of it. Plus, it is loud...no joke. As a big fan of Gears, I needed a new console and the game and this was a perfect buy. Checked with the commander (wife) and funds were available for my new toy. Ordered this bad boy on the 19th of September and was at my doorstep the next day right when I came home from work - I was so excited. But, as life would have it, the console was never installed until that Friday night and the game played until Saturday afternoon. Priorities... REVIEW on the CONSOLE: This console is much smaller than my XBOX 360 Elite and now fits perfectly in my home theater shelf. It is also quiet...finally. Oh, it looks freakin' awesome. My purchase came with the game, 320Gb hard drive, two GOW controllers, $40 amazon credit and a bonus GOW skin. All in all, great bang for the buck when you consider the controllers are $65ea at Target. The negatives...the sound effects are cool, but the sound quality is an epic fail. Maybe they saved money by using old laptop speakers from the 90s. The lack of HD cables and the controllers DO NOT come with a rechargeable battery pack or cable. BTW, I bought the Xbox 360 Charge Base - Black so I don't have to keep replacing the supplied AA Duracell batteries. REVIEW on the GAME: Gears of War...love it. I've played GOW1 and GOW2 and still play them to this day. My home is networked, so my boys and I system link and GAME ON. Game play is good as 1 and 2 with more goodies. There are new weapons like a sawed off shotgun, digger (rolling underground grenade launcher) and retro lancer (it stabs not saw, great melee effect but accuracy when firing SUCKS big time). Oh, and incendiary grenades?? Yup, watch those aliens burn...burn baby burn. One more thing: the lancers seem stronger and more accurate now - well, it feels that way to me. There are some changes that make the game a little harder. If you pick up a sniper rifle, or boltok pistol or any other non-COG weapon, refilling ammo is a PITA. When you find an ammo refill pack, it DOES NOT replenish these weapons! To get more bullets for your sniper, for example, you'll need to grab it from an enemy that you killed as it lays on the ground. CONCLUSION: Console is perfect, definitely worth the purchase. If you're looking for new or to replace your old one, this this is the way to go even if you're not a Gears fan. The box itself is cool looking. The game, yup it still rocks. If you haven't played Gears 1 or 2 yet, do it....you won't be dissapointed. AMAZON.com rocks! ... show more

  • FINALLY GOT AN UPDATED 360!!!!
First, i just want to say i will be reviewing the console, NOT the game. I'm pretty sure the game is amazing, just look at the raving reviews on gaming sites. I am one of many 360 owners who purchased a 360 when they were first released. The old 360's had the infamous "Red Ring of Death" problem. I suffered through this TWICE with my 360. The first time Microsoft fixed it under warranty. The second time, i had to pay them to fix my 360...that sucked, THANK YOU MICROSOFT. I lost faith, kept my 360 on the shelf and purchased a PS3. After playing all the exclusive hits for PS3, i had to go back to playing my 360. PS3 isn't as fun online like Xbox Live. Through the years i upgraded to a nice 1080p flatscreen tv, but my 360 still was old. My PS3 was demoted to Blu-Ray player only status. I didn't want to spend the money on a new 360 when the RROD problems were still around. The slim versions were released. My 360 was so old it didn't have HDMI, or built in WI-FI like the newer Slim versions. I had to get HDMI, but still didn't want to spend the money. A couple of weeks ago my memory on my old 360 got full. So i finally started looking for a new 360. I came across this version....and wow, im glad i spent the extra dollars. I pre-ordered last month and waited. I received my Gears 360 on 9/20/11 in the afternoon through UPS. Nice packaging, beautiful artwork on the controllers, and console. The best part is the 320GB of memory. If you have an old 360, upgrade ASAP. The new 360's are smaller and alot more quiet. Yes, this system does cost more. But its a limited edition, comes with Gears 3, downloadable character, add ons, two controllers, touch eject button,HDMI, 320gb of memory, built in WI-Fi, console Gears sounds, and just looks nice. I will make some of the money back by selling my old 360 with games. I transferred all of my content from my old 360 to the new hard drive using the transfer cable(not included). The process was easy, and transferring the licenses was simple too. Upgrade if you have an old 360, this is worth it. If you need a partner in Gears 3, add me. Username ANIMOO. ... show more

  • Solid offering - minor quality issues
The situation: This was an upgrade for me from a Launch Xbox Elite. I wanted to upgrade to avoid any future RROD issues but also for the "whisper quiet" operation. The bad: If you are familiar with the 360S then you know this unit is slightly smaller and indeed quieter. It's not as quiet as I hoped given their marketing around that aspect, but it is better. Additional issue I had was that the hard drive was not properly seated when I opened it up. This required me to open the bottom and push the HD in. Not a big deal, but certainly affects impression of quality here. Along the same quality lines is that one of the controllers has the platic lined up incorrectly which is noticeable while playing. not going to affect the function, but annoying. The good: In all other regards the limited edition effects are quite nice and well done if you are GOW fan. If you are a serious GOW fan and have the money for this I don't think you will be disappointed. A really nice aspect of this special edition is that it is only branded "Gears of War", not "GOW3" which would date it in time. As it stands, this unit will look nice for years to come. The extra hard drive space will likely go under utilized in my setup, but its good to have it there. In total: Finally, it's interesting that Microsoft has managed to get some of us to pay $400 for a 5 year old system, but there you have it. They manage to keep interest up and deliver new value in new games, so good for them. Update: I finally tried a 2 player game on the Xbox which required the use of the 2nd controller. Unfortunately it turns off randomly. So quality is even more ify. I expect I got a lemon, but Amazon says they will take care of me so I'm leaving it at 4 stars. ... show more

  • Absolutely Awesome
I bought this to replace my old Xbox 360 elite which was running out of hard drive space. I have to say it was completely worth it. The Gears of War game was amazing. You got a $40 credit for pre-ordering, Savage Kantus for pre-ordering, Adam Fenix, the Infected Omen weapon pack, 2 Gears Inspired controllers, a headset, and the console which has 320gb of memory. I love the wifi for it to, it runs faster than my ps3 slim on wifi, and faster than my Elite did wired. The open button custom sound can be a little difficult to hear, and the open button is extremely sensitive, the day after I got it I propped my feet up on the stand my xbox was on and hit the button, luckily I hadn't done anything on the game I was playing. The power button sound is very clear and audible. The system runs very quiet, but very hot. It runs a lot hotter after 30 min of play than my Elite did after 3 or 4 hours of play, but it hasn't shut itself off even after hours and hours of playing. The controllers are smooth and actually painted, not a sticker. The battery pack is black and not red, and if your smart you'll go buy the black plug and play recharge kit, and no one could even tell. The game is wildly better than the other 2. Campaign seems to have some differences in the gameplay, which took me 30 min or so to get used to. Beast mode is extremely addicting, but the maps seem to play a factor at how difficult the enemies are, me and a friend played on 1 map and beat all 12 rounds in 30 min, then tried it on another map, same difficulty, and couldn't get past round 2. I haven't used the headset, because I have a wireless Halo Reach headset I use. I could go on and on about this console, but I'd rather go play some games on my console rather than stay on here. If you get it you won't be disappointed. ... show more

  • New 360
Just adding to the 5 stars for it really. First off, packaging is nice. Everything is compartmentalized making it very efficient use of space. There doesn't really seem to be any empty, unused space in the box meaning that it's "green" in a way. The box is sturdy though making sure to house it's contents protectively. The finish is nice and shiny and the colors very vivid. Next, the contents. A copy of the standard edition of Gears of War 3, 2 Gears of War 3 themed controllers (with 2 batteries for each controller), a Gears of War 3 themed, slim, Xbox 360 console, composite cables, power brick and a black Xbox 360 headset. A standard copy of the Gears 3 game is most definitely acceptable, but a limited edition version of the game with the limited edition console makes more sense in my opinion. Inside the game case were some Gears of War 3 stickers, the game, 2 codes; one for Adam Fenix multiplayer character and the other for the Infected Omen weapon skins as well as the "Instruction Booklet". The "Instruction Booklet" is one page, folded in half. Its content is the controls to the game with a picture of the 360 controller as its main imagery. Not much there, but I guess it's once again being "green" by having practically no content. I'll leave reviews of the game up to the people who are doing that, but my two cents is that if you liked Gears 1 or 2 or both, then you'll be happy with 3. If you haven't played either before, as long as third person shooters are your thing, you'll like it as well. The two Gears of War 3 controllers are very nice. I guess the new controllers Microsoft is selling now have a modifiable directional pad. You twist it around and it changes how the D-pad feels; either more like a + symbol or like the original 360 D-pad. I kinda like the + symbol myself. Oh, plus the D-pad is chrome on these Gears controllers. The surface is smooth to the touch (like a piano) where the face buttons are and has some texture on the bottom half (the side where your your fingers go). Just like any Xbox 360, wireless controller, these have great range. The Gears 3 graphics on them are pretty much the same as what is on the console itself, but that's a good thing as I find it very appealing. The controllers are already synced up to the console too making set up that much easier. Speaking of the console, it's quite sexy. I upgraded from a Modern Warfare 2 edition to this one and there are a few things I am enjoying right off the bat. First off, if you still have the older 360, the slims in general are quieter. If you copy the games to the HDD, then it's almost silent....very nice! Also, with this console also comes the Gears 3 sounds. When you touch the On/Off Power button directly on the console, you will hear a little sound bite from the Gears games (if you've played any of them before, it should sound familiar). Also, when you touch the Open/Close button directly on the console, you'll hear a different sound. The only thing I have found to be an issue with the sound is the built in speaker in the system that plays them is cheap or in a bad spot in the console. When the sound comes out, the system itself or the speaker rattles a little bit making the sounds come out slightly distorted (picture having a radio up to loud). FYI, when turning the console on or off or when opening or closing the tray using the controller, the sounds do not play. The 320GB HDD is more than enough room for all your stuff and can hold plenty of games burned to the HDD if that's your thing. There are more USB ports on the backside of the console too (I think there are 3 or 4 on the back and 2 in the front). I generally don't use the USB ports on my 360's for anything, but the fact there are more is a plus. There's an HDMI port in the back if you can use it, but you'll have to purchase your own HDMI cable (you can find them really cheap on Amazon btw). Wireless networking is built right into this thing so you don't have to go out and purchase an additional adapter to go wireless. And just in case you missed my comment earlier, the same graphics and smooth finish on the controller is also on the console itself. As for the remaining contents, they are pretty much self explanatory. Overall, I think right now the price is justified considering what you are getting. The only thing that kind of ticks me off is that it took Microsoft so long to get the 360 right. Reports of RROD have fallen (at least from what I've seen and read online)and the console seems to be at its peak in performance and reliability. If you haven't purchased a 360 before, now is the time and getting this edition of the console is a safe bet. PROS: 1) Gears of War 3 graphics are nicely done. 2) Gears of War 3 sounds. 3) 2 controllers versus 1 (with batteries and synced) 4) Copy of Gears of War 3 (with DLC codes) 5) The Slim 360 is way better than its previous predecessor. 6) 320GB Hard Drive. CONS: 1) Gears of War 3 themed sounds come out a little distorted (maybe it was just my console too). 2) Gears of War 3 LE should have been included (this is more of a personal preference and I can understand if the packaging didn't allow for it to fit or if they would have lost money on the deal, just saying....) ... show more

  • Not as advertised
The system itself works fine it was not factory reset when I got it so there were two profiles on it then I had to set my own profile up that was a pain unboxing did not come with original box or anything like that as advertised did not come with a second gears of war controller as shown in picture I even read the description and it said it came with the controllers Well one controller was off brand corded see-through and was broken I can’t even play with it and the other controller I did get is a gears of war controller but has been taken apart and the thumb sticks changed and the left bumper works fine but the right bumper does not really respond at all The game that it said that it came with gears of war two was supposed to arrive also that never came in the mail and I am thankful that the system works but it is sad the state that I got the controllers in and was not even the right limited edition controllers for the system and the game gears of war two that it came with did not even come so if I could give this a negative star review I would I’m just more disappointed than anything that I didn’t get what was advertised or what was mentioned in the description about the system and what came with it speaking from myself I feel like I’ve gotten ripped off and it’s taking me a while to write this review because I really didn’t know how to approach something like this just too much of a headache when I got it and would be too much of a headache trying to get everything fixed to where I would be happy so I just sucked it up said the hell with it and I’ve been playing it on and off the fan is loud but after so long you forget about it I guess if I have to make another purchase like this I’ll just spend the extra money and go to dkoldies.com where they have bundle packs and you actually get what is advertised and have old systems all the way back to the NES I don’t know about y’all experience with this seller but mine wasn’t good I’m not dissatisfied I’m happy that I got the system and everything but just dissatisfied with the state of everything and how messed up everything looks because my thumb stick Is not the right thumb stick it’s from another controller ... show more

  • Great console, but only 1 huge problem......
So I purchased this around the first week it came out to replace my console that I've had since December of 2008, which is the Kung Fu Panda/Lego Indiana Jones 60 Gig HDD Xbox 360, which has now been passed down to my good friend that has been dying to get a 360 of his own for a long time now. Now, after receiving this brand new Gears of War 3 Xbox 360 Slim, I opened up the package and had an orgasmic reaction due to the fact that I planned on purchasing it ever since the first day of it's announced release. Before giving my friend my old 360, I transferred everything from my old 60 Gig HDD into my brand new 320 Gig HDD. The transfer was quick and easy. But beware, you must go to the Xbox.com site and transfer your licenses over before you start your official transfer on your HDD. The controllers are beautiful, but for some reason when I opened my package, it only came with 1 controller. Strange if you ask me.. I then called Amazon Customer Service to ask them about this issue and they were not aware of this, so they sent me a brand new one! 5/5 stars for Amazon's Customer Service! But other than that, here is the big problem that I am having with my new Gears 3 Xbox Slim: IT RESTARTS ON IT'S OWN! Every now and then, it restarts on it's own. I'm not sure if anyone else is having a problem with this or not. At times, even before I even take a quick look as to who on my friends list is online or even play a game at all, it restarts on it's own! I did my online research, and removing the HDD and replacing it back seemed to have helped the issue for a good day or two. But then, it restarts on it's own again! I did everything else that I researched as well, and nothing else really helped. ... show more

  • The best Xbox 360 bundle
I have been using this since May 18, and it is my first Xbox 360 since the very first, Red Ring of Death-plagued, 360s were released. I am extremely impressed with this console. The paint job they did is just gorgeous, but you don't spend much time looking at the paint. The controllers match the console, and the sounds for the power and eject buttons are great, but usually too faint to really hear. Gears of War 3 is excellent, and incredibly cinematic with great visuals. For the price I paid for this bundle, it was cheaper than buying things separately, and that, to me, is a good deal...plus I have a great looking limited edition console. The only issue, if this is really an issue, is that it seems to run a little hot. It's not as loud as the original 360s...luckily. I would say though that it runs just as hot. ... show more
