  • Read instructions before leaving a review.
Like others, I didn't read the instructions because it seemed a very straightforward thing to put together. It didn't even occur to me to put it on like an ax handle, but luckily for me, before I started trying to whittle or sand the handle to make it fit, my son came home from work and had it together in 2 seconds. I was more frustrated with myself at that point. The reviews saying that the handle doesn't fit should be deleted because it is just user error. I think that with proper care, this tool should last for a long while and successfully accomplish the sort of jobs it is intended to do. It is well worth the price. For the record, you don't really need to be "handy" to put it together, once you figure out how the handle goes on, it's just a screw, most people learned how a screw works in preschool or kindergarten with simple toys. Also, if you're worried about it slipping out of your hand, you could always attach a string through the hole in the end of the handle to use around your wrist. ... show more

  • Decent quality once assembled, but missing the screws
If you didn't pick it up from the description, you need to assemble this tool yourself. That's no bother for me, but someone older might be a bit perplexed when they get it. It's easy to assemble and it goes together like your basic axe. My problem was that the head screw was missing from my package. I tore apart the entire package looking for it, but there was no screw to be found. Not only did I need to drill the hole, but now I had to find a suitable screw. It took me all of 5 minutes to put it together, but I could see that being troublesome for someone who's not handy. I'm taking away a star for the missing screw. Once I had the how assembled, it seemed to be nice quality for the money. The head does seem solidly attached, but that's up to you as the installed. It's reasonably lightweight and comfortable to hold, but not so light that it doesn't have any heft when you swing it. This is not something you use for intense cultivation, but my wife likes it for her raised garden beds. I've bought WorkPro tools before and they are decent value for the money. I would not go so far as to call it sharp, but I've been known to put a knife edge on my spades to slice through roots. I guess it's more sharp than it is dull so it should be effective at tilling soil. If you wear gloves it shouldn't be a problem, but I can see the handle getting slippery if you have wet or sweaty hands. I'm not disappointed with the hoe, but I wasn't blown away either. It's a good basic garden tool. ... show more

  • HIGHLY RECOMMENDED gardening tool - perfect weight and ergonomics for all day use
Reading some of the other reviews really had me laughing (especially the one with the video)! Do people not know how to put a handle on a gardening implement? In the event you've never worked with a pickaxe, you slide the head down the handle from the grip-end. The head of the handle is intentionally too big to prevent the metal-component from sliding off. It's not a 'trick', it's original, old-school gardening tools for actual gardeners - it's been that way for hundreds of years. The reason for this is you could replace a handle with relative ease when out in the field in the event the handle broke. In fact, you could carve one from a limb or narrow tree trunk and keep working. If you're concerned it might slip off (it won't - the force of use keeps the head in place), there's an option to use a set screw. But you won't need it. I noted in other reviews people addressed that 'Some assembly is required'. Well... that's true, but if that intimidates you then gardening probably isn't your thing - after all, your garden is 100% some-assembly-required. When it comes to actual use, this unit is perfect and a great value. All the weight is in the head, and the angle for both hoeing and weeding/cultivating is perfect (see last photo). The ergonomics of this makes it usable all day for an adult. The weld points and chisel-tip details on the tips and blade are top-notch - this thing will last a very long time. The only room for improvement is the grip-part of the handle - I would have kept it in the original wood. I'll wrap it with some friction tape to improve the grip when working in wet or muddy conditions. Otherwise, this is FANTASTIC. Ignore, or laugh your way through, the other reviews and get this. It's half the price of my previous favorite cultivator. I love it! ... show more

  • WORKPRO Hoe and Cultivator Garden Rake
First of all - THE OTHER ONE STAR REVIEWERS SHOULD HAVE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSEMBLY LOL I am one of those who also just tends to try to put stuff together without reading the instructions but I was smart enough to figure out that you slip the skinny end of the handle through the metal head so that it settles up on to the fatter top of the handle, where you then screw it in. The instructions say to tap, tap, tap it on the floor first, which I also instinctively knew to do. It took me all of a minute to figure out the way to assemble this and screw it together. This was an interesting new twist for me as all of my yard tools have ever been purchased from hardware stores, ready to immediately use without assembly. I needed a small, not-too-heavy combination hoe/rake to revamp my flower beds, which I neglected after last summer and they have regrown with great gusto all the wrong things...strong Augustine grass and tons of weeds. This tool made extremely short work of removing weeds and breaking up/aerating the soil. I was actually very impressed, and this was much easier for me to use than my normal to-go tool for this job, the Garden Weasel. People, read the dang instructions or just *think it through.* I have no complaints about this tool. The metal head is nicely coated and is a thick, strong metal, and the wooden handle is sturdy and easy to grip. You can't (well probably shouldn't) clear an entire field with this tool but for getting flower beds and gardens ready to roll for Spring, this worked great for me. ... show more
