I have not used this in the water yet, however I did use this at a job site to pickup nails. Works very well. The orange covering does slip off when storing from time to time.

I have only had it for a short time, got it stuck once but thankfully got it back. The orange rubber over the magnet won’t last long, but everything else is great. I tied the rope onto the magnet and use the carabiner clip to wrap the rope around something so I know I won’t lose it when I toss the magnet in the water. We ordered a different magnet as well but love this one so much we plan to order another one. Only thing that I don’t like is the orange rubber over magnet cause it won’t stay on. But that is nothin major, it’s more for looks I guess. ... show more

I do not do fishing with this, but I do plenty of projects/repair at our cabin and inevitably manage to drop the nut/bolt/whatever in the grass or in the dirt trail... so I got this to FIND MY PARTS :)... you literally have to be touching what you trying to pick up for it to 'grab'. I was hoping that I can drag/comb over grass and dirt and it would ATTRACT metal objects as it suppose to - it does not do that. I did try to pick up (actually hoist) my John Deer weight bar with 7 x 42lbs weights - so roughly 300lbs AND full contact surface of the magnet to the weight bracket - it failed miserably... so 880lb must be in a vacuum type of a test :). ... show more

This magnet is very sturdy and so is the rope; while I was magnet fishing the other day, the magnet got caught on some rocks that I didn't know were at the lake side and it took a Dodge 1 ton diesel to pull out the magnet and I didn't lose the thing! The rope and the clip held and there isn't a single problem with the magnet! I'm so glad I bought this kit and not a wimpy one, otherwise I might have lost my magnet! ... show more

The kids (in their 30's) and I have had so much fun with this magnet! It is really strong and we have found lots of stuff, some good, some junk. Can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can go out again! The kids loved it so much that they ordered a second magnet!
