Protection for your tables or counters from hot pots is always a great idea. Having this trivet tree of wooden coasters is an attractive way to provide them close at hand. The only potential down side is that the wooden parts are strung together with elastic cord. That is what makes them fold up into the tree branch safe when they're not being used. The opposite effect is that if you set one down on a flat surface, it is still in a convex shape. If you center the hot dish over the middle of the trivet and gently lower it down, it should be fine. It you get off center, hopefully the trivet won't skitter away while you're trying to settle the hot pan or serving dish on top of it. Still, the design aesthetic is very attractive. I'll probably buy a set for our daughter as she does most of the entertaining for the family these days. These will go with the general look in her kitchen, especially during the holiday season, although they can be used year round.

My wife loves the idea of this trivet tree. It is cute and useful. She intends to give it to a young family member who recently set up a household. While this is cute and useful, the execution could use some improvement. Some of the trivets have marks on them and some of the elastic holding the trivets together is loose with visible knots.
