These tools are said to be teak, but look a lot like acacia. I can't tell for sure. But I can say that they have a lacquer/varnish or some other coating on them and I would not trust cooking with them. Teak does not have a sheen to it when uncoated. Water does not bead up on natural, untreated teak. Given the history of lack of attention to food safety with products coming from China, I will be returning them. These "wooden spoons" as the box they come in describes them, are actually what are known as "spurtles" and they are both quite beautiful (these were listed as "new teak") and quite well made and durable. I have no doubt that with a decent amount of care they will last a very long time. Please note, they are not dishwasher safe and must be hand washed in warm soapy water and left to air dry. A very good value for a reasonable price to have tools that come in so handy in everyday use. I am very happy with this set. They are very well made with a coating (claimed to be natural) and durable. I use them for making noodle soup, curry and porridge. I also use the small, narrow ones for taking out, say preserves from jars. I oil them every few months, but they seem not to dry out because of the great coating. ... show more

Really nice wood that washes up easily. Really scrapes pots and bowls thoroughly. I use it with hot food on the stove without hurting the spurtle. Works well for spooning up rice, grits, oatmeal and many other foods. I use them all the time.

I use these all the time to stir anything in a pot. They feel silky smooth in my hands! Not your typical wooden spoon. They have several sizes and one with slots. They wash up nice too. I highly recommend these.

These are wonderful!!! I don’t know what I have ever done without them. Better than any spoon I have and I love how the narrow one fits into my jam jar and spreads with little effort. Stirring with these, straining with the large one is a new experience.
