It's decent for a beginner kit. Nice quality (I can revisit that after putting it through many uses this year.) Nice leather holder. I only take it down one star because I don't feel like everything I could need is included. The gloves included are more of a small/medium so I immediately spent another $12 on extra large cutlery gloves that fit me better. (Worth it so I'm not cutting my hands or compromising my motion in small gloves.) Also, after my first attempt I find myself wanting a larger option for roughing out so I'm getting a bigger sloyd to go with this, that way I can try carving on more things without worrying about damaging these smaller tools. Other than the fact that you might need extras very very quickly, it does seem solid though. It's fun to try to improve your technique.

Great starter wood carving set. Includes 4 whittling knives and 5 detail knives, which is more than I've used for years to successfully carve detailed Santa figures. They've included basic instructions, basswood starter blocks, and a few design templates. I love the beautiful and sturdy leather storage bag with secure spots for the knives, leather sharpening strop, and polishing compound. This is an inexpensive way to get started with a unique hobby. Well worth the price. If you haven't carved before, do some research and find a training video that covers both safety and technique. These blades are sharp. Carve away from your body and never put your non-carving hand/fingers in the path of the blade.
