  • some "sort of" Rogaine misconceptions
I started using Rogaine when I was in my 50s and I'm now in my 70's, so I'm going on close to 20 years. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time because I wanted to address some possible misconceptions people may have. #1. You have to use Rogaine every day for the rest of your life. While it is true you have to continue to use minoxidil if you want to keep your hair, you do not need to use it every day for the rest of your life. I'm pretty sure I used it every day for the first year and a half, but after that I noticed that even if I missed a day my hair didn't fall out; then if I missed a couple days, 3 days, a week. So for most of the time I've been using Rogaine, I've only been using it about once every 10 days. Sometimes, I'll go longer and I'll start seeing more hair in the shower. When that happens, I'll just use the Rogaine then go back to my every 10 days schedule. I would not recommend that you purposely skip days until your hair regrowth is firmly established, but once it is, you can try experimenting. Which brings me to "sort of" Misconception #2: If you go longer than two weeks without using Rogaine, your hair will fall out. Well, it will start to fall out, but it doesn't all fall out on Day 15. And, as noted above, once you restart the Rogaine, the hair loss will stop. (I don't know for how long of a period of abstention this will hold true.) Misconception #3: you have to apply the foam directly to the areas of hair loss. I found this was a misconception because I was only applying the minoxidil to the right side of my head since that was where I had noticed the thinning. Well, lo and behold, I started losing hair on my left side as well. I never lost enough hair on the left to make it noticeable, but it did tell me that the minoxidil was affecting my entire scalp and, in fact, my hair became super thick on the left side of my head. Which brings me to Misonception #4: Wait as long as you can to start the Rogaine. I did this and it was a big mistake. Before you start growing new hair with minoxidil, you will lose all the hairs that were going to fall out anyway. The further along you are on your hair loss path, the fewer healthy hairs you're going to have on your head and the more you're going to notice this initial hair loss caused by the minoxidil. I'd never thought I was a vain person before starting the Rogaine, but I probably cried every night for the first four months of use. I'm not proud of myself for doing so but it's a fact that I did. So, I hope all the above can alleviate some of the concerns people may have about starting Rogaine. My only regret is that I didn't start it earlier. There is also one tip I have: when applying the Rogaine, use a finger cot, The Rogaine never bothered my scalp, but my finger got sore either from getting a higher dose than any single point on my head or because of the friction of rubbing so many hairs. ... show more

  • Very easy application
Ever since I got Covid in 2020 my hair has been thinning very much at my hairline and the top of my head. In the shower so much hair falls out. At 48 years old that I am now this started a few years ago and I’ve tried so many different things. I like to follow reviews from dermatologist and many of them recommended this product. It is so easy to apply. It comes in a mousse like texture. You apply it to the areas that needed and then use a scalp scrub to set it in. And then you leave it alone. This is great because you don’t have to wash it out and that was very important for me. Part of my hair growth journey is to not wash your hair often. So that is why I didn’t do well with products that you leave in for a certain amount of time and then have to wash out. I was using this every night before bed and within 5-6 weeks I was only losing a quarter of the amount of hair I was losing before that in the shower. By 7 weeks I started noticing little baby hairs in those areas that needed it. So I am here to say that if you use this product consistently and have patience, you will see a difference. The only downfall is that I wish you got more product in the bottle. Before you know it, you are ordering another one. But it’s worth it when you see a difference. Also I recommend that you follow instructions and use the amount that they say to use. In the beginning, I was using more than I needed because I didn’t want to miss any areas. But it spreads out nicely and using more product doesn’t mean that it will work quicker or better. ... show more

  • Dry scalp issues, slowed shedding, no regrowth.
I am female and have PCOS. While I still have my hair, it's a bit thinner in the front and I wanted to get ahead of a common symptom of PCOS. After using a liquid version that made my hair look like crap, I decided to try the foam as it might have helped me not loose like a greasy mess. Note: I do not have significant hair loss. I have some thinning and picked this as a preventative measure. While it did make me look like less of a mess...I got really, really bad dry scalp. I had a little dryness from the liquid and while I am not 100% the foam made it worse or it simply got worse over time, I do know I had a reaction. The kind of reactions that my dermatologist couldn't medicate through and recommend I just hope that my hormone therapy will keep the shedding to a minimum in the coming years. Dry scalp is a common side effect of minoxidil use and I was disappointed that this was not an option for me. There just are not a ton of options for women our there. I managed to use a liquid 5% minoxidil (off brand) for 4 months before switching to this one for 2 months. Which means I was using a 5% minoxidil solution for the average time it takes to see results. My dermatologist said if I don't see any changes in 6 month then this method does not work for me. There was no new hair growth but I can say that my shedding reduced and the thinning seemed to slow. My hair has more lift in the front and looked ok. It was not a miracle for me and did not regrow anything I had lost. I would think this could be an option as preventative care, but users must know that if you are using minoxidil for hair loss, you have to keep using it. Always. Maintenance is required to maintain results. While I was willing to use something every day to prevent futher issues, I know this would be inconvenient for others. Keep this in mind when you start using something like this. Don't be afraid to talk to your doctor about other issues or reactions you may have. ... show more
