  • Lenses were not built right
Color: binocular microscope
The lenses were off so it made the focus off. It was impossible to focus on both at the same time.

  • Great for beginners!
Color: binocular microscope
I ordered this to replace one that my youngest son had dropped (more than once). They're are now a little older and I'm hoping will be more careful with this. I originally got a microscope while my boys were home remote learning during Covid. Purchasing this definitely wasn't part of the curriculum, but they/we found it so much fun! They're both visual learners like me. I always enjoyed science/biology in school, so I was probably more excited than they were. This works just as well as our old one (which had cost more), except the body doesn't wobble and the lenses aren't scratched up, at least not yet. We recently removed a tick from our dog and decided to look at it under the microscope - see pic. If you've never done this, I HIGHLY recommend it! You can see the blood pumping through the body and everything. It is a little gross and not for everyone, I know! It initially takes a bit to get used to, especially if you haven't used a microscope in a while, but you get the hang of it pretty easily. I feel like it's really decent quality for the price, and it also included some "extras". The magnification works well for most things and I find the resolution to be quite clear. It has a couple light sources, yet having it in a well-lit area also helps. The body of it is mostly metal and seems relatively sturdy. The knobs to move the slides back and forth aren't as as smooth as I'd hoped, as it seems to stick every so often, although it hasn't been a big deal. I wouldn't expect lab quality as this is definitely more of a beginner microscope. I probably would've given this four stars if it was any more expensive, but we've really been enjoying it so far and I think it's a great value for for what you get. ... show more

  • Excellent views at 500x magnification!
Color: binocular microscope
Review of Woehrsh Compound Binocular Microscope, 40X-2000X, Double-Layered Mechanical Load Table and LED Lighting Microscope for Adults, lab for Students and Adults Microscope This is a much better microscope than the monocular one that I had 50+ years ago. The precise slide/specimen positioning controls are a real asset to using a microscope. You place the slide against the fixed side, close the spring-loaded clip against the slide and turn the 2-dimensional movement control knobs (front to back and side to side) to move the object on the slide into view. This feature is one of the reasons this costs a bit more than similar options that do not have this. It is a nice feature and beats trying to center the specimen by moving the slide with your fingers (the less you have to handle the glass by hand the better). The better professional microscopes move the entire stage as well as the slide, but this works fine. The scope has two light sources, one above the stage and one below, both are independently adjustable for on/off and brightness. These are LED and can be battery operated or plugged into a USB power source or adapter. There is not a mirror light option. The lamps are supposed to be replaceable if needed. The optics are good. The calculated magnification is correct, 40-2000x. The setting for 2000x (the 40x objective and the WF 50x eyepiece) magnification is surprisingly not too bad. At higher magnification the specimen appears darker and less clearly resolved, better views at 500x magnification. I like the WF eyepieces best and plan to supplement the included eyepieces with a couple of WF 20x or WF 25x with one of them dioptic (adjustable) so I can adjust it for vision differences in my two eyes. This is a downside to the optics that come with this scope. You can adjust for eye separation width, but not for optical differences in your vision. That is typical for scopes in this price range. The fact that this does not come with an eyepiece in the 20x range is an opportunity to fix this issue and add a magnification range. Overall, quite nice, as I said much better than my microscope I had years ago, also better than the ones I used in high school years ago. My star rating is in consideration of this statement from the description: “It is suitable for student education, children's gifts, elementary science exploration and DIY experiments.” This scope is ideal for those uses. See attached photo of a pre-made slide of a honey bee knee that I took with my cell phone through the microscope using the 10x and WF 50x setting. ... show more

  • Disappointing quality for the price
Color: binocular microscope
The media could not be loaded. I ordered this when I saw the price of about $260, thinking it would be of decent quality. (It has since dropped in price to about $190). Upon arrival, I opened it up and got everything set up. The body/frame is mostly metal, with the exception of the part where the two eyepieces are installed. This part is plastic, and the tubes where the eyepieces fit are also plastic. Before even peering through the eyepieces, a few observations I didn’t like: - The fit of the eyepieces into the tubes is very loose/sloppy - The plastic “box” where the eyepieces fit feels a bit flimsy - The knobs for the stage X-Y movement aren’t very smooth - especially the Y-axis (forward/rearward). This knob is very wobbly (see attached video). - I tried to install AA batteries, but the compartment length is too small - I got one in, but the second I tried just wouldn’t seat all the way. It’s like the battery contacts are too thick, and reduce the available length available for the battery. The microscope does come with a USB cable to power the lighting, so at least the lighting can operate without the battery issue. Once I started looking through the eyepieces, it seemed like there was a lot of dust or crud in the light path or on the lenses. Bottom lighting works well when the lesser two objective lenses are used, but it drops off a lot when the highest magnification lens is used (40x). I was able to look at some stuff without too much trouble on the lower two magnification powers, but at the highest, it seems like there is a lot of “noise” in the image. I happened to remove the microscope slide and using the lowest two power objective lenses, I can focus on the “lens” that the light passes through from below. I included photos. It looks scratched up and gross - with brown specks all over it. Overall, this seems like a microscope for kids rather than adults - I don’t think it is anywhere near lab quality, and isn’t worth the $260 price it was at when I ordered. The fact that it dropped in price by $70 between my ordering and the time of this review seems a bit suspicious. I am not even sure it is worth the current price. Given the quality issues, I would not pay more than $100 for this product. I am giving this 3 stars, but I think I could have easily gone lower. The metal body may be its only redeeming quality. ... show more
