I used this product to repair a lamp post that was about ready to fall down. I originally tried to use a well-known brand from a big-box store. It was well made, but it was sized for a 4x4 post (whose actual size is about 3.5x3.5) and my lamp post is 3 7/8 x 3 7/8. So it wouldn't work. I needed a repair part to meet the following conditions: 1) Designed to work in dirt. (Some are designed only to repair posts that are mounted in concrete.) 2) Had no offset so that I didn't need to damage the plants that are at the base of the lamp post. 3) Had attachment screws that did not go into the center of the post as my post has a hollow channel for the electrical cable that powers the lamp. 4) Was sturdy and had a convenient area for hammering the support into the ground. This design met all of these requirements. I have rated this kit as five star, but there is one thing I would have liked for my situation. My lamp post is mounted in very sandy soil, so I would have liked the underground spike to be longer for better support in sand. Nonetheless, this kit will do the job, prevented me from having to buy and install a new lamp post, and only took about 20 minutes to install, as it comes with mounting screws, a drill bit for tapping the hole, and socket head for driving in the screws. ... show more
