This is a good choice for getting high-quality streaming video and snapshots from within the interior of bird nest boxes. Camera setup is straightforward with the free WIWACAM mobile app. The camera card can be mounted unobtrusively on the inside of the nest box roof for a top-down, in-focus view. The flexible ribbon connecting the camera card to the camera control unit is long enough for mounting the control unit and WiFi antenna on the nest box exterior out of the way of the nestlings and parents. The WIWACAM app also allows remote changes of camera settings and viewing and saving of the video stream or snapshots - no need to closely approach the nest box and disturb the nesting birds, especially if you provide 24-7 power from a USB charger connected to the camera control unit USB port. The infrared LEDs on the camera board provide excellent illumination in low light conditions, the typical lighting inside nest boxes even during the day. The camera supports the RTSP protocol so other mobile or desktop streaming software can be easily used as an alternative way to view and save the video and snapshots if you prefer. I have found the video stream to be very stable whether using the WIWACAM mobile app or using other software like VLC Player. The camera motion detection feature works well for automatically saving interesting activity to the camera SD card for later download, or sending yourself email notifications to get your immediate attention such as when the parents first visit the interior of the box.

Camera was very easy to install in the Owls nest. Connecting to the wifi was simple. Decent quality camera. Zero issues with the app. This would have received 5 stars, but the included rechargeable battery doesn't last long - less than 3 hours. To overcome this issue, connected the battery to a small solar panel that includes battery storage. This was sufficient enough to keep the battery charge through the night, with continuous recording. I would purchase again.

I had a really frustrating experience with this camera. It was very difficult to set up and would not connect or work as expected, even when following the instructions. The biggest issue was the battery — it started overheating when plugged in, which is honestly concerning and unsafe. I also expected something more suitable for a birdhouse setup, but this didn’t meet those expectations at all. It’s not very user-friendly, especially if you want something quick and simple to install. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this product if you’re looking for a reliable birdhouse camera.

After downloading the WIWA CAM app to my iPad, and creating an account to link the MW5 camera system to my WiFi network, I installed the camera today inside my birdhouse. I am extremely pleased with the MW5 camera, particularly the very small size and footprint of the camera itself. It is so much smaller than all the other birdhouse cameras I considered. And the price is very reasonable. The size of the competitors’ cameras would have taken up a much larger volume in my chickadee birdhouse and I’m not sure the next set of parent chickadees would have even considered building a nest with the decease in interior space. I have had chickadees nest and raise babies in my birdhouse for five years now, so I know the birds must like the design and interior volume of my birdhouse. I really didn’t want to take a chance on installing a large camera that might have discouraged the next pair of chickadees from building a nest. With the very small size of the WIWACAM MW5, I had no concerns whatsoever of the birds feeling space-restricted. Two thumbs up to the camera designers and engineering team. I couldn’t be happier with my new MW5 birdhouse camera and system!

We saw that a female Chestnut backed Chickadee was interested in our nesting box and started to bring in material. We were able to slide the camera and ribbon cable into the box along the interior roof. We used a thin piece of metal to keep the camera supported. Once we linked the camera to a 2.4G router (5G will not work) the camera worked flawlessly. The infrared images were even clearer than the daylight camera. The alert system worked well and the instructions were very helpful. This is located outside and we covered the control units with a box with good ventilation. We have it connected to wall electricity and a 32G sim card is plenty to record bird visits. The audio seem quite good too but will likely be better once babies are born. PVon

Gets really hot when it’s charging. Picture quality is ok. It was a bit confusing to set up. No real way to mount the battery pack. But for what it is you get what you pay for.

Ordered the WIWACAM to observe activity in an outdoor wildlife shelter box. Enjoyed many wonderful hours observing the animals that entered and slept in the shelter. Camera was simple to set up and the Wi-Fi feed allowed clear observation both day and night. Camera also allows you to record and save both photos and videos. Tiny size and optical range make it the perfect camera for nezt boxes, cages, or shelters!
