  • Well made and quite comfortable to use
Color: Black
Years ago I tried a couple of the Microsoft Ergonomic keyboards. I found them a bit uncomfortable to use for longer periods. The wrist rest was hard surfaced and that was part of it. As I've gotten older and my hands have stiffened up I thought I would try this keyboard since it looked like it might address some of the issues I'd had with the older MSoft offerings. The good: Well made Indicators for caps and num lock status. Note that the LEDs time out if not typing on the keyboard. After about 4 to 5 seconds, but turn on again as soon as you hit a key. This helps to extend battery life. Low battery indicator. On off switch on the front. Flip out feet with rubber pads, more on this below. Soft fabric covered wrist rest that is quite comfortable. Wireless interface that works with Linux. Includes a brush for cleaning. Worked right out of the box. Plug and Play. Minimal User Manual included. The USB receiver can be stowed in the bottom of the keyboard unlike some others I've tried in the past. Able to type faster than on the keyboard it is replacing. Special function keys appear to work well, e.g. Calculator button brings up the Linux calculator. I haven't tested all of the them yet, but the ones I have work as expected. The Win key brings up the Linux main menu. Minor nits: The flip out feet tend to flip back down when you slide the keyboard to reposition it. Not a big deal but a minor annoyance. It would be nice if the feet had a better locking mechanism. The fabric wrist rest over time will get dirty from skin oils, etc. With the dark color it will hide that pretty well, but eventually it could get a bit nasty. Conclusion: I haven't checked it out yet but it might be possible to remove the screws on the back of the keyboard under the wrist rest and remove it to clean it. That would seem to be the only reason to have screws under that part of the keyboard. But there is no mention of it in the very brief User Manual. All in all a decent quality keyboard with only a couple of minor nits. I might order another one of these for my wife, if I can get her use to using the Ergonomic style keyboard. ... show more

  • I like it but not sure about it yet.
Color: Black
I've been a long-time user of Microsoft's Surface Ergonomic Keyboard. I've had tendonitis in both hands, so keyboards are important to me. I need something with a short stroke and a light touch. That said, Microsoft no longer makes the Surface Ergonomic Keyboard, so when the two I have wear out, I'll have to find something else, so when I saw this I grabbed it to see how it would do. The touch is light. Not quite as light as the keyboard I've been using, but it is fairly light. There is a bit of a "hump" to the depression of the keys, unlike my Microsoft keyboards. You have to press a bit harder to get past the initial depression and the rest of the way down is easier on the fingers. The stroke length of this keyboard is longer than the Microsoft one. I measured it at approximately 3mm, where my Microsoft keyboards have about 2mm stroke, so this is about a 50% increase in stroke length. I'm not sure about that right now. With the keys sticking up further, it takes more effort to move them to the next keys. The wrist rest is comfortable, a soft, padded cloth rest for the hands. I like it. Having used the Surface Ergonomic Keyboards, with their Alcantara material in the place of a wrist rest, I've learned that the wrist rest is quite a magnet for oils from the skin, and can get quite ugly over time. This fabric being a darker color than the Alcantara, it probably won't be as noticable, but something to keep in mind. For this reason, though, I do wish that keyboard manufacturers would make the wrist rests removable for cleaning. The key layout is familiar, with the insert, home, pg up/dn, delete, end, and arrow keys all laid out the same as my present keyboard, so that part won't take any getting used to. It will take me some time to figure out if I will keep this keyboard long-term due to the tendonitis history I have, but I believe that it will work well for the majority of people out there. ... show more

  • Nice. solid keyboard.
I have used the split/ergonmic keyboards for decades - I think since they first debuted. So, I am already used to the split format. There are a number of things that I like about this particular itieration. First, the wrist rest is very comfortable without being too "cushy". With this one, I don't feel the need to add on an adidtioal support. Next, I really like that the adjusability of the height on this one with the 4 "feet" - one in each corner. My Logitech keyboard has just 2 feet in the back corners, though those have two separate tabs for some height adjustment. I feel like the one in each corner gives me more versatility. It allows you to change the angle or just raise the height overall. The set up was a breeze. Installed 2 AA batteries (not included) and plugged in the USB receiver. Turned it on, and voila! I like that the on/off button is on the top of the keyboard. This will allow me to more easily turn it off when not in use and save the battery. It's not that turning it over to turn it off is difficult, of course, but having it sit right here in view reminds me to do it. The keys are very quiet and have a nice "soft" click. Another keyboard I have has a stiffer more "clicky" key feel and I like that, too, but that keyboard doesn't have a calculator shortcut - and for me that is fairly critical. This one has one, though it is in a different location from my prior keyboard so am still "learning" to use it. I feel like it makes more sense to have it near the side keypad, but it's not too far away that it should take me a very long time to get used to it. Overall, I find this keyboard to work extremely well at a great value based on the current list price. The one drawback, for me, is the lack of availability of keyboard covers - but that's a very minor point. ... show more
