  • Total crap, don't buy if you actually need a functional stereo that interfaces wi

I have a 20 year old car that I was upgrading for a VERY long road-trip. It had a CD player, but I knew I wanted the ability to access my navigation system & add stops. Plus I wanted to be able to use CarPlay for media & hands-free calls, between listening to music & whatnot. I installed it just days before I took off, so the unit was BRAND new. I spent around nine days in the car using this radio, I can say it is complete TRASH. First thing that failed was the touchscreen. It stopped reacting when I touched it on late into day one, then it started doing “phantom touches” day three & registering contact out of nowhere, the two issues came with some pretty annoying consequences. It called the most RANDOM people from my address book a few times WHILE I WAS DRIVING & wouldn’t let me hang up. Imagine your phone keeps dialing your exes while you’re doing seventy on I-40 in the ascending desert of rural Arizona & you can’t stop the call, it was like a stress dream! It would also exit itself out of active navigations, several times I had to pull off of the freeway to re-enter my destination. That wasn’t the only navigation issue, I also got WAY fewer reroute notifications for heavy traffic & it was IMPOSSIBLE to preview the new suggested route effectively. It was SUPER difficult to zoom out on the route & see what traffic was like ahead. Google Maps tried to send me up & down a mountain for no good reason in the desert. I thought that was what was happening, but couldn’t zoom out to make sure & there was no place to turn out, so I had to drive six miles to the entrance to a ranch & confirm that my route was incredibly wrong. This was not an isolated case & I had to pull off of the highway FREQENTLY, or try to battle the failing touchscreen because the voice commands were useless. I had to initiate Siri on my phone & then make my request through the external microphone, which was onerous. I say external, because the internal microphone built into the unit is GARBAGE. No one could hear me with it. I tried testing the mic input on the back of the unit (yep, had to take the WHOLE thing out twice to do this) with a professional Pyle microphone before leaving, but that didn’t work so well either. I couldn’t find a microphone volume control in the setting, which makes me think that’s a passive input with no amp & therefore not worth a D@MN. I decided to chance it with the external mic & it was miserable. I needed to contact my phone company while on the road a couple of times & had to pull off the freeway to use speakerphone function instead. I couldn’t book hotel reservations on the move. I needed to talk to a business associate about a change of plans in OKC rush-hour traffic & had to give up on the call. It was utterly useless. Speaking of interfacing with the phone, both options were awful. The screen mirroring function for iPhone is absolute garbage. It does portrait orientation, even in apps where it’s senseless. CarPlay only worked intermittently, even though this was a wired unit (not using Bluetooth). Halfway through the trip the unit would drop CarPlay & switch to the static of the radio. I would then have to futz around with it (while driving) & renter my coordinates *if* I could get it working again. Ultimately, I reset the unit to address this & the touchscreen foolishness. Then that’s when it started resetting on its own. Yep, I’m cruising down the highway, all of a sudden the music starts glitching/skipping & I have a blank screen. I would then have to unplug the phone to connect to CarPlay again & reenter my coordinates WHILE DRIVING! Did I mention that I had to reenter my coordinates a lot? By the end trip I was resetting the radio a half dozen times a day to address these issues & the radio itself added a few more just for kicks. I basically had to address SOME kind of problem with this unit every other hour for NINE DAYS TOTAL!!!!!!! I nearly reinstalled my old radio (I brought it because I figured this could happen) at my destination, but didn’t have time & I really did need the screen for navigation purposes, as a crappy phone interface was better than none. Relatively minor, but the internal media player was useless. I brought some external storage devices loaded with music for stretches where I knew I’d lose cell reception & was never able to get them to load a few gigs worth of media. I would have been better off with a CD/DVD player. Let me list the handful of positives: It looks good for the price. The screen is big, double DIN so perfect that the trim didn’t fit, & it everyone who sees it says it looks great. The radio worked well the couple of times I used it. It was a breeze to install. I got a wiring harness & soldered the one included to it in a half hour. The install would have only taken under an hour, but the mounting bracket needed to be modified for my car. Everything is well marked & pretty straightforward. Despite being rife with grammatical errors, the install instructions were adequate. So I can say authoritatively this radio isn’t worth it if you ACTUALLY need a radio. If you just need it to fill the hole in your dash for cosmetic purposes, go for it. In short, if you need a serious radio, don’t cheap out. ... show more

  • So far works great
Style: Wired Carplay
Had to rig it to fit but that’s what I’m best at so no problem. Much better than others in this price range especially 1080p. CarPlay work’s flawless and sound is good when you adjust your eq settings for your vehicles space. Overall it seems like a good stereo considering how many are out there these days. I’m happy with it compared to another I bought and returned. ... show more

  • Simple, basic, works.
Style: Wireless Carplay
My biggest complaint is that, for Google maps, it always starts in day setting. This unit, you can't adjust how bright the screen is so for me, it's best in night mode. I have to manually change to night mode every time even though it's set to night mode on my phone and on the unit itself. This is very frustrating for me and the reason for the low review score. Other than that, the unit performs well. Also don't expect much from the rear view camera, again it works but the picture is very, very poor. The touch screen is sometimes slow to react but for me, this isn't something much of a bother. ... show more
